FMS pretty much sucks. BUT, I rekon its far better than nothing when it comes to learning to fly helis. I used it at first and does help you learn the controls. i.e., which direction does what. So when you get into your first hover'ish state, you will kinda have an idea how to steady the heli. I dont think it will give you a good idea of how much stick to give.
I played around with fms and after a couple of minutes I could do flips and hover inverted etc... not very realistic.
The FMS sim is OK for learning to fly your contra rotating heli.
If you are looking at a package including the sim and heli
But if you need to buy a lead for £25+ then its questionable if its worth the outlay.
FMS is only good for learning the orientation, it is not realistic for fast forward flight or aerobatics.

I have FMS and I think its definitely better than nothing but from what I have read its pretty rubbish and unrealistic compared to Phoenix. FMS has been good for me being a complete beginner as it has taught me what the sticks do but I think I'm going to invest in Phoenix as it will definitely help in the long run.
I've been checking ebay to see if there are any second hand ones going but I have yet to find one on there. I guess this means that it is very good and people aren't wanting to part with it.
I wondered about FMS but ended up buying Phoenix as part of a package deal from Mr Models which included a DX7 transmitter. I wasn't interested in the full DX7 kit as the servos are too large for the T-Rex 450 and I wanted an AR6200 RX in place of the AR7000 (but I digress).
The key point for me (a definite noob) was to have a SIM that matched the real thing as closely as possible. There is a co-ax model in Phoenix which behaves much as my real Twister Medevac (although the SIM is perhaps a little more stable).
I also had the SIM checked out by a T-Rex flyer and he reckoned it was pretty close although I am trying the tune the SIM a bit more to match how I want to set up my (shortly to be delivered) T-Rex 450. Phoenix offers Trex 450 set up for "training", "sport" or "3D". I started with "training" but have switched to "3D" which I actually find easier provided I never hit the idle-up .
I am now going to try and increase the intertia on the flybar (equivalent to adding collets next to the paddles), reduce the pitch range and maybe the headspeed also. Then I'll hopefully get it checked out again by my friendly T-Rex flyer.

6200 is a 6 channel version that has the plug in second bit like the AR7000. Its a bit smaller than the AR7000.
The 6100 is the one piece park fly rx. Fine for a trex but the 6200 is only a few quid more.
...There is so much nice stuff that is just a few quid more!

The second "bit" provides another arial (so you have two). Mounting these with different orientations is claimed to ensure that, even if one receiver gets masked, the other will get you out of trouble. It's not a "range" thing (by the time you are out of range with a TREX 450 it will likley be out of sight too!) but a question of providing the best possible radio link to a very unfriendly radio environment (high currents, lots of switching, metal everywhere - and carbon fibre, etc. etc.)
. . . . or so I am told

So my Dx7 comes with the 7000 RX...... so what should I be doing....specifying I want it with the RX 6200 ? Is this an option or am I basically going to have to buy a RX6200 and have the 7000 as a spare ?

The difference is size, the 7000 is a little bigger and has two Aux channels instead of one on the 6200.
It depends what you're putting it in. If you want to put it in a Nitro get the 7000 and use the extra channel for the Governer.
If it's a T-rex or similar use the 6200, it's smaller size makes it easier to place and the 2nd Aux channel isn't needed.
Also, if you can get a deal with a 6200 there is a cost saving too.
I use both, two 7000's in my 90's and the 6200 in the Rex.
Can't fault 'em.
If you keep checking ebay regualy u can get a bargain. I picked phoenix up for £40 on a buyitnow (the auction was only 5mins old, lol), works brilliantly, so my advice is just keep looking
