Was question 1 a question? and what happened to qustion 2?

DX7 is the best radio available at the moment so yuo can't go wrong there, you shouldn't have any problems getting shot of the serovs for £50 on BMFA but don't use them in a heli.

I don't believe they're heli specific radios - you just set it up as a heli radio in the radio setup screens, as per most computer-driven radios these days.

If you need any more info on the 600E, its build, bits needed, let me know

Question 2 : Is there a particular version I want (I know I need a 600e) but I see there are 600L and 600XL....i figured out this references the motor.....but are there any others ? I've seen CF for Carbon Fibre and GF for Glass Fibre... (only seen one of these....) Are there other types and is there any particular ones you'd recommend ?

I've got the CF-E, the carbon framed version. There is now the G/F framed version, and also the aluminium is still there I think. Spare frames vary in cost from aluminium cheapest, up to the carbon ones at £80 or so, so that should be a consideration for crash-repair.

The motors X and XL... for full-on 3D the XL is the way forward; it's about a 1/4 again more powerful I've read. I'm running an L motor for general flying including lifting cameras, and have no problems. I get about 10 mins of flying on my Aurorra 4800 packs. I guess if I went to an XL motor that would come down to about 6 mins or so?

Someone was telling me about someone they know (3rd hand knowledge!) running an XL that got 3mins of 'good' 3D capable power before it tapered off noticeably.

If you're shopping from scratch, you'll also need decent servos, gyro, 6S capable charger, Lipo packs, and blades.

I'd recommend Futaba digital servos - I use S3152's which are a 'budget' digital servo but more than capable in terms of resolution, torque and holding power (and lots on here use them). For a gyro, I wouldn't go any less than a Futaba 401 with a good high speed digital tail servo. If you can budget for it, a 611 gyro and matching servo is more 'future proof' and will do everything from learning to full-on 3D. For a charger, I've tried a few, but now settled on the BalancePro 6S from Aurorra which looks very basic (box with a knob!) but is superb - hooks to your laptop to monitor/log battery charges. Lipo's - again I use Aurorra 6S packs, but bank on around £190 for a decent 6 cell pack - Flightpower or Aurorra, and you'll want more than one. The Align packs aren't generally that great. Nothing worse than a bit of a buzz from a flight, wanting to fly again, and having no charged pack ready

For blades, probably best to start with a fully symmetrical blade from the outset. I run TT 600mm GF/Carbon composites which I'm more than happy with, but others have used BBT Maniacs and Radix... price goes up in that order.

Well I've had a bit of a look ... that DX7 for 205 is going to cost me a few more quid in shipping and import duty...not a lot in it ... so I may phone up midland models and order the whole thing tomorrow. Radio servo's gyro 600 the whole deal.Wonder if they'll do me a discount for the whole thing ? :P Guess I'm gonna be a k lighter tomorrow

Couldn't find the GY601 but found the GY611s and it comes with a 9256 tail servo..... Price was a shock...the gyro is more expensive than the radio ?! Stupid Question Time..... I need 3 more servo's right ?

BTW what voltage do the servo's need to be ?

Ok so I have the TX, The Kit, the Gyro and tail servo, 3 additional servo's..... leaving thhe batteries aside for now (I'll buy them when I'm ready to fly......) what else do I need to complete building the model ?

DX7 heli has a smooth throttle, aero version has a ratchet (which can be removed anyway). Plus the default model will be "heli" for a heli and... well, you can work that bit out

So pretty much the exact same unit.

Yes - three servos. The cyclic/collective system is CCPM (collective cyclic pitch mixing), with a servo at every 120deg around the swashplate. All three servos move in sync for collective, and cyclic is achieved by the radio mixing the servo movements as required to achieve control. Your fourth (tail) servo comes with the gyro with the 611 (newer version of 601, but no difference bar gyro head case material). You could go for the 401 gyro and its matching servo, and save about £100 or so? Still a good heading hold gyro... You'll need 600mm main blades, but again, they can wait until its ready to set up the mechanics. Make sure you get the kit that includes the motor, BEC, BEC Lipo and ESC incidentally. Other bits needed are some good metric hex drivers - try and use the straight ended as opposed to ball type. Look for Wiha or Bondhus - both good quality. Align also do a set with various coloured anodised handles that again are good quality. If I remember rightly, the whole kit can be assembled with straight drivers. The ball-endeds are useful for your tool box, but can lead to wear on the fastener head. You will also need something to loom the wiring up, along the lines of 3mm 'spiral wrap' which you can pick up from Maplins. There's a branch in Stevenage opposite Jessops, or I can post you a few metres... got loads

You need 6V capable servos... The BEC on the 600 from its on-board 2S1P lipo kicks out about 5.8V. Futaba S3152 digital servos will do you proud for the CCPM servos (about £22 each, Inwoods) and are fine on 6V. The tail digital servo should be operated at 4.8V. Luckily the full 600 kit comes with a diode voltage 'dropper' in order to power the tail servo.

Just one little thing on the gyro front.

The Spartan may be worth having a look at by what ive read it will compete with the 611 and the 702, all for around the price of a 401.

If this is the case then it will be all the gyro you need and its available through the RcHeliaddict shop.

all I can say is if I were in the market for a new gyro I would go for one of these to give it a try.

infact you could always buy my 401 and then i'll get one LOL
