  • Newb after friendly advice

Hi All, I'm thinking of purchasing a heli after having a great time with a friends esky mini heli at the weekend ( managed to get it hovering after about 45 mins ) not sure if this is good or bad but I was thinking of something a little bigger. After having a look around on the web I have 2 heli's that i think would be a good starting point but would like to ask the opinion of you more experienced flyers.

The 1st is the electric Eco 8 & the 2nd is the Hirobo shuttle. I suppose what i am asking is which is better to learn with if any, electric or IC??

I hope you can give me a few points for consideration as I do not want to start off on the wrong foot

    Many thanks

    Craig.B

P.S I am pretty well upto speed with the whole nitro engines lark as far as keeping them running/tuned etc as I own several trucks and cars and feel that this is the time for a greater challenge.

Hello Graig and welcome to the site,

In my opinion you do better starting with IC, Shuttle, Sceadu, Raptor, Ornith which is .46 there is a good reliable and pretty well proven range to try from.

It would be beneficial to visit your local club and see what the guy's there are flying, thus you'll find a greater pool of on field time help, which is were it's needed the most.

You can also pick many good second hand ones too....

What thoughts have you given to your radio gear ?
    Cheers

Hi Stuart, thanks for the reply.

Regarding radio gear the 3 I am considering as part of an overall deal from Midland Helicopers are as follows :-

      Sanwa RD6000
      Futaba FF6
      JR XP652

As for engines I would like an O.S but will probably have to settle for something a little cheaper to start with.

        Craig,

Get yourself a good second hand RD6000, the FF6 and JR only have 3 points to fix your pitch and throttle curves while the RD have 5. You can get a copy of the manuals from the download section of the site.

If you search the BMFA Classifieds and Ebay you will get a decent OS32 second hand many are looking to upgrade to the new .37 engine so you'll find a surplus hitting the used end.
        Cheers
