    hey there,
i have had alittle flick through the pages on here and have seen ppl talking about ys engines.
i have a baby os 32 in my rappy and was thinking ov changing it to a 50 soon.
no problems with it at all.i never had to change mixture or muck around in any way shape or form ,just add maggy 20 and fly each time .
on my list is a os hyper 50 engine.
is there any reason why i should look at a ys engine instead ?

OS has more beans, but a nasty 'orrible mid-range that needs much fettling to get right.

YS has less beans, but has a perfect power delivery right through the throttle range.

The YS is easier to get running well than the OS due to its better throttling, but is a tad more expensive than the OS.

I have one of each. I prefer the YS, as I think the better throttling is more important than the top-end power, and the actual difference in max power is minimal.

    Life is always a compromise!

Bloody hell I think a 'Tad' more expensive is a little wide of the mark. last time I looked the YS was £40 + more than a hyper unless theres something you ain't letting us in on Manager
        Velocity 50
        Synergy N5
        Fury 55 FBL
        Trex 700

Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak....

About £20 more for the YS in my experience. Of course £20 on a £100 engine is 20%, which is significant if you look at it that way. Alternatively, if you look at as being 'just' £20, then it doesn't seem so much!

All I can say is "shop globally".

Don't shoot me down here, as the owner of both engines, I'm simply offering my experiences and thoughts about the two of them in a side-by-side comparison. I have these two 50s in different helis - OS in the Sceadu with 600mm blades, which I've been putting back together this evening, and the YS in my Airskipper with 620mm blades, which means it is possibly an unfair comparison in terms of out-and-out performance, but the whole throttling thing is just a simple fact. The YS is miles ahead of the OS in this area.

The generic comment that people tend to make about YS engines is that they are hard to set up. I have to say that in my experience, this is simply not true. I've found both my 50 heli YS engine and my 63 4-stroke YS plane engine to be absolutely effortless to set up, with no alterations needed away from the factory settings on either engine.

funny i hear this os engines need tweaking loads alot .i guess ive bn lucky as i own 4 os engines and never have to muck around with them but then i dont keep changing diff fuels or plugs like i have heard on here at times.
but nice to hear a comaprison by someone that has both.

on another note wats this i see on here about summer plugs and winter plugs .
i use os num 8's in all mine and have no truoble .
only ever use an a3 plug when engine is new.
is this somthing im doing wrong or is there winter and summer plugs .
ill feel abit silly if there is as i have had ic products for 20 years and never changed from season to season.
