  • New Beginner Model - Century GL450

    Hi,

I've been watching this site for a long time now and following everyones advice. Everytime I'm about to ask a question i do a little search and no doubt get just the answer i'm looking for, up til now. Upon advice given to others a few months ago and with an eye to the future I purchased phoenix and a dx7. Perfect, no complaints at all. But now is the time to move on. I had a twister cp but got really annoyed with it after i crashed it a few times and the rebuilds were not as simple as they should have been, plus it was too light for flying outside which is what i really wanted it for.

To cut the rest of a long ramble short my choice has come down to Trex450sev2, mini titan and the new kid, century GL450SEN. I want a proper heli to build and fly but at the cheaper end. My main problem is the cost and i just can't justify the trex as i figure it will all cost me over 500 quid once i have spares and battery chargers etc, and i might as well save up for a larger on then. But the century is only 270 and the only extra thing i need is a charger.

Does anyone know any thing about it? It seems perfect for me or do i really have to keep on saving and miss out on even more months of possible flying?

    Thanks for any views

    Alex

I can't comment on the t-rex or century, but what I can say is that the Mini Titan is a very stable and forgiving micro heli. Parts count is low and the spares are everywhere. You can buy upgrades for it, but you'll find the stock version fly's very well as it stands. The thing about micro's is to invest in good servo's, gyro and tail servo don't spend a small fortune on the kit then fill it with low end electronics, you'll only end up spending more in the future. I worked out roughly a Titan with battery and gyro, three servo's and a tail servo is circa £400.00. I'm sure others will have more experience with the T-Rex and Century.

Thanks very much for that, What else would i need to get? I assume a decent receiver (prob AR6200) and a charger (no idea), anything else? What kit is it that you would recommend with the titan?

I have obviously missed a bit whilst away this summer, when did the new store come in?

Get a decent charger ideally with an internal balancer, but you can buy these on thier own finally a tx and Rx (spektrum's DX7 are the rage 2.4ghz comes with rx - zero gllitched with 2.4ghz, in saying that I run G3 with a 14mz and never had a glitch either), have you a sim this will save you a small fortune. The Mini Titan kit comes with speed controller and motor. I use Flightpower packs but there are plenty to choose from, Ash is good on the topic of batteries and chargers.

I already have a dx7 and phoenix, thanks to advice given a few months ago to other people on here. I knew that i was always going to go this way, so that was an easy decision after what people were saying.
I will wait to see what people say about the century but if i understand correctly you would recommend me to spend more on the electronics as i can always upgrade the kit later, and i suppose i will probably break it regularly as well. Certainly makes sense for a beginner like me.
