How long is needed to learn 3d

I started 3 months ago this hobby, I finished the hovering stage and I start to move it around I can manage to do half 8 figure. My question is how long does it take to learn 3d?

If your flying every day or your under 12 years old fairly quick i would have thought but if your like the average person probally 15-24 months.

We are always learning really, but for me it took me a year and a half to get to a reasonable standard

how long is a piece of string is an answer i can think of,people learn at different speeds,some peoplewill pick it up quicker than others as they are naturally more hand to eye co ordinated,or just simply "get it"

i done 3d the first time i ever flew a collective pitch heli,it wasnt intentional and it didnt end well

All depends on you really, some go into it very quickly because they have a natural bent for orientation and depth of perception and their brains are capable of working out the necessary eye to hand co-ordiantion and timing needed. Others, probably the majority have to work pretty hard at the necessary co-ordiantion and are able to make the connections it just takes a bit longer and others will never be able to fly 3D. So in short it all lies in your hands and the time and dedication you can put into it

one thing I have realised in this hobby, is the amount of effort you seriously put in, then that really shows in what you get out, I havent done much flying since I started, through one thing and another, so I am along way behind where I thought I would be, more sim effort over hte winter, and a bigger heli over the winter, hopefully I will progress a bit quicker

you will only be as good as YOU can at one thing so asking how long it will take to do 3d in my opinon is a pointless question,it will come when your ready.
passing your driving test for one , has taken some people 1 maybe 2 years even longer. but for some 2 or 3 months so you could be doin 3d in 6 months if your brain has the time to proses all the info and you have the time to teach your self.

3d is where you link tricks together and into each other, below that is sport flying i guess

If you can do 2-3 consecutive piro flips in place, then you are doing 3D.
Level below is called putting around

Age is a major factor in heli flying IMO ,as for me 48 years young its a hard learning curve but i love it every week i not so much get better but more confident and thats the important thing,dont rush get it nailed on the sim and then try it (high) at the field.

when i started out with a few guys at our club we were all pretty well matched, but as i'm a lazy b'tard with a penchant for crashing expensive helis i soon started falling behind, and now they're bordering 3D (one is now a heli examiner), i'm not but i'm at a stage were i can fly without bricking it.

It completely depends on loads of things, some people learn quickly and others (me) don't . For me I will progress when it happens, I just enjoy a couple flights a week and relaxing at the club the rest of the time
