  • New CX2 and BELT CP Flyer

    Hi Guys....
Been lurking for a bit and like most of you I bought and started off on a Blade CX2....However after a couple of weeks i got bored and blinged it up with alloy everything. However ....it improved only slightly. One of the things i noticed is forward transition flight was very poor ....walking pace was the best it could managed. I tried checking the swash plate movement and also moved the servo linkage out one hole space....no diff to be honest. So I bought a Honey Bee Belt Cp.....
Holy Cr4p !!! It's about 50x more difficult to fly and where the CX2 was sluggish and poor in response this thing is nuts !!!! it has a mind of it's own and is like balancing a ball bearing on an convex sheet of tin.
Surely there's a decent transition heli between the two ?
I'm going to buy a T-Rex SE v2 as I keep reading they are very stable in the hover with the right flybar collars weights..... but..... am I approaching this right ? I'm self taught by the way and live near Bishops Stortford...(nr Stansted). I also ordered the Phoenix simulator and leads for my Transmitters so hoping that may help. Any thoughts or comments ? I really would like to get something in bettween the CX2 and the Belt CP....
    AC

P.S. my 11 year old has nabbed the CX2 and can hover it as well and wants a shot on the Belt CP but i'm terrified he'll trash it.... or even worse....hover it before me

I guess your flying this with the tx that came with it?
This is probably the problem most people have when buying micro helicopters I would recomend anyone whos interested in micros to buy a decent radio to guide it with this will eneable you to setup both dual rate & exponential functions. Dual rate reduces the amount of travel on the controls so you can set it up for both wild movements & then at the flick of the switch reduce those movements to subtle ones.
Exponential reduces the sensitivity of the control around the centre of the stick this helps to smooth out the aileron control movements which you will be putting in whilst operating say the elevator function.
As for a model that is a transition between the two, I dont think there is one realy. Most people here would tell you not to buy a honey bee belt cp in the first place as it's just not a nice heli. The only real micros at the moment worth having are the new align series either the 450 S or 450 SE V2 or the Thunder Tigre Mini Titan.

To improve forward transition flight on the Blade CX2 you can always buy one of those custom canopies (http://www.bladecx2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=39#39)and move the battery about, that weight shift will change the forward transition.

      [EDIT] Like so http://www.bladecx2.com/1batterynewcanopy.gif

Hi guys thanks for all the comments....
First the CX2. Well I received the aluminum 'bling' swashplate and whereas the head and bottom rotter ali bits were very nice (didn't seem to make a lot of difference) the swashplate transformed my heli immediately....it actually flies now....around the garden and everywhere.....my CX2 is now interesting again What a difference ...really !

OK the Belt CP.....well just as I managed to get the damn thing off the ground and not kill myself, the dog or my son I had a 'moment' and smacked into the ground quiet hard. everything looked ok but as I slowly span it up and held it at 1/4 throttle all of a sudden there was a *wop* noice and it started shuddering like mad. I spooled down and noted the pitch on one of the blades was drooping. Checked the head mechanical thingy bobber (don't sigh...just got the darn thing) and I have lost a ball connecter bit that connnects to a blade.....so new bit there... (025 Main Blade Clamp) so first bit of bling for my CP Belt I guess.

So today I need to order
        2 pckts CX2 Top Rotors
        2 CX2 landing struts
1 new body kit. (Don't ask...well if you insist....with new swach plate the CX2 will actually zoom about and put enough bank, tail and nose down in and it really goes for it....then seem to lose all flight stability and drops like a stone....*crunch*)

        Belt CP
        New blade clamps.
Wife has just said for my birthday she will write me cheque from her account for that 450SEv2 I fancy.....cool
Was gonna buy one on ebay pre-made and RTF second hand for a few quid.... but now the prospect of a new kit looms..... hmmmmmm

          Hi there.

Are you talking about the pitch control arm ball on the end of the blade grip?

If so then this set, EK1 0548 Servo Linkage rods, is of more use as it contains a few of the balls and screws that you will require.

If you need the balls and it looks like they are prone to problems on heavy landings then this is the cheaper option for replaceing the parts in the long run. Might be worth ordering a set of blade grips as well just incase the screw strips the hole on its way out.

Oh and please dont ask how I know.....

          Hope that helps

          Regards

I'm pleased your problems have been fixed.

My CX2 on it's first flight out doors was with the original parts, and it went like a bat out of hell around my square.

With the upgraded parts it's even more responsive, now I've balanced the blades and fine tuned the trims and all, and she only needs the slightest touch to move forward, but in a very controlled manner.

I've now had ten flights in total control with no near misses or busted blades, in fact with a little impute she stays put forever more if you wish.

Flying her is now becoming real fun, I feel as if I've invested in a proper little flying machine what with the upgrades and new body, and my "learning curve from hell" is well behind me, it's nice to take off and enjoy it, rather then being on edge almost waiting for the next crash.

I like you nearly purchased a CP Honeybee this weekend, but I thought no, I'm enjoying flying what I have, and have made some good progress in the last few weeks.

For me so long as I can have a few flights I'm happy, so now the expense of replacement parts every day (blades) are behind me, do I really want to blow another £130 on a CCP chopper I have no idea how to fly safely and start running more costs with a different model... err not really.

Sure the TREX flyer's reading this are saying "only if he knew" which I say "whats the rush", enjoy the time you have once you've mastered one machine, that doesn't cost much to keep in the air after confidence as been built.

Practice on a sim for hours between charges with sim CCP's, then once you have the very basics take the leap to more powerful and complected equipment to fly.

I'm loving my time with the CX2, and look forward to flying something more ***y in a short time to come.

You're right..... However.... I've bbeen bitten by the bug and bad..... flew my CX2 for quiet a bit today (have 4 batteries) and like I said I got carried away pushing it along quicker and quicker and crashed....so new canopy...still flying and then an attempt at a spot landing on a table and smack.....more rotor's etc etc. So now the little CX is waiting for her next set of bits.... BUT the Belt CP is such a different kettle of fish...the CX2 gives you the taste but the biggger heli is just so much....*more* of everything. I'm sitting here champing at the bit....2 heli's both needing bits....and I so want to fly tomorrow

I'm just 'piggin' out on the buzz at the moment. Good news is...tomorrow is a busy day and the rest of the week I work fairly long hours so there' no rush and it will do me good to wait.....next Saturday will be all the beter for waiting for it to come around.

Mate I come from the same mold as you, that's why I'm holding myself back.

It's a loosing battle but I'm holding on for the time being.

Best of luck returning your birds to flight bud', this heli flying is completely addictive.

BTW my folks came round to visit today, and I managed to have them both sweating buckets as I had the CX2 hovering above them while sitting on the sofa, lol.

They said the air blast was nice, but couldn't believe little helis like that could have that much control and work like the real choppers.

I'm an eighties child, can you imagine how much something like the CX2 would cost back then! it would have been in the £**** price range, amazing how things change and improve, I wonder what Rookies like me will be flying ten years from now, gas turbines will possibly be cheap as chips by then
