  • 1st Decent run with my Belt CP

Well as the title really, Finally managed to have some fun with the Belt CP without wrecking it!

It turns out that you REALLY need to set it up properly so that you have 0 degrees pitch at 50% throttle and below. Otherwise when you lower the throttle on landing/trying not to crash the head speed is too high and the blades go to -10 degrees and say hello to Mr boom!

This has happened three times previously and was getting annoying! Took quite a bit of searching forums to discover this as the general advice is to set +10 / -10 degrees.

I can hover the Twister CP V2 that I have no problems tail in and can pretty much hover 90 degrees left and right and move the heli left and right and I can recover if it gets a bit out of shape. So I'm enjoying that.

The Belt CP however is a very different beast. Its a little intimidating so i stay a lot further back . Dont fancy meeting those blades!

I managed to hover around the garden tonight and kept it relatively under control. I think I need to refine the setup a bit firther and work on the tail although the esky heading hold gyro is looking ok so far.

I'm taking my time and getting a feel for it before I get to the stage that I'm at with the Twister.

Oh and yes I know theres a lot better out there but this is a very inexpensive (relatively) heli to repair.

In about another month or so I'll get the TRex 450 SE V2 when i have half a chance of putting a few battery packs through it between crashes!!!

Oh and I could not resist a little bit of Bling Bought the Alu swashplate so that is going on tommorrow/Saturday hopefully

I'm not so sure your throttle/pitch curve is ideally set there, even for hovering practice.

Try and aim for a steady hover at about 50% throttle, maybe a touch more, and about -1 or -2 deg pitch at minimum throttle.

You full +ve pitch should be as per the instructions for the heli, but probably around 8 or 9deg at a guess?

You want to be able to land positively, without the heli 'floating' and only allowing gravity to bring it down. 50% throttle and no pitch (as you currently describe) will do nothing for the heli. The -1deg minimum will help here as the blades are tending towards slightly negative as you back off the throttle.

'Flyability' is entirely down to heli setup. Learning with a heli set up properly will certainly help you progress when you move to your 450SE V2 (lucky you )

      Thanks Rob.

I see what you mean about the landing positively. I'll dial in a -1 degree pitch at zero throttle tommorrow/Saturday when I swapout the swashplate. Thats just a change on the pitch curve on the DX7 so thats easy enough to do.

The forums all reccommend +10/-10 pitch on a default setup for this heli.

I'll change the setup when I get more familiar with the Belt CP and confidence grows.

But for the money its not too bad now.

      Thanks

        Hi James

You definitely don't need -10 just yet - that's only needed for full on 3D inverted manouvers where you need the same performance inverted as it is right way up.

The -1deg minimum pitch just helps the heli descend. With a 0deg minimum they can kind of 'float' and be reluctant to come down.

Try a hovering throttle curve of something like 0-40-55-70-85-100 and then set up your pitch 'curve' (actually a straight line) for whatever corresponds to -1deg at the minimum and about 8 or 9 deg at the maximum. Then, play with tweaking the throttle curve middle/upper sections so you get the heli to hover at no less than mid stick, but ideally not much more either.

Let us know how you go.

        Cheers - Rob

          Hi Rob.

The Swashplate arrived this morning so later this evening I'll swap it out and try those settings you suggested.

I do understand the resoning behind the -10/+10 setup. What I did was set the heli up mechnically so the swash is level at 50% throttle and the pitch is 0 degrees. with the -10/+10 range.

Now I will use the radio to set it up as you suggested.

          It makes sense

          Regards

1st Decent run with my Belt CP

            Hi,
I have the Belt CP with the Futaba 6EX Tx and the 146iP RX. I have been testing in the garden, also tried indoors(carefully). I have only got basic settings programed into TX, but before it gets in the air, it is spinning CCW. I have tensioned the tail drive belt, so that is okay, I have been experimenting with moving the tail servo on the tail boom, but cannot get a happy medium. I was hovering at just over 6 ins from ground, but heli was spinning CCW, moved the servo again and then spinning CW, can`t seem to get in between this to overcome the spinning. I have checked the obvious without any success. Anyone have any ideas please. The screws on the tail servo boom clamp are starting to wear out!! Thanks
            Martin

              Hi

Have you checked out Finless's video's on how to setup a heli? Helped me no end.

You need to set the tail servo at 90 degrees to the boom and then check that you have a small amount of pitch on the tail rotor. Then you adjust the gyro so that in non HH it does not creep.

Check out the Finless vids, they really help.
