Hi all, I Just bought a 2nd hand raptor 50 and I am only at the hovering stage at the momant.I would say I am only getting about 3 or 4 minutes of hovering to a full tank there doesn't appear to be a leak although when I throttleup there is traces of fuel on the floor from the exhaust is this normal .Does this mean the fuel is to rich and if so how do I set it correctly thanks

If you're just hovering you should get at least 10mins flying
Which engine do you have?
Check the needle settings and as sacko says the back plate should be warm not hot
ie if you can hold your finger on it without burning your self its about right,
You will get a small amount of oil out of the exhaust if its ticking over for a while,

What engine is it? Most have 2 needles a low one and a high needle, the low normally looks like a screw head on the carb and the high one is the knurled headed one with a spring clip on it to hold the settings. If it's a hyper, start with the slot in the idle needle at 12'Oclock to the carb barrel, then set the high needle to 1.25 turns. See how this goes, a quick scheck for idle settings is to pinch the fuel tube starving it of fuel next to the inlet on the carb, the engine should rev up slightly and the die within around 5 seconds or so, anymore and it's too rich, turn the idle screw to the right in little bits until you get this to around 5 s. If it is less than 5s then try richening it up a little, by turning the idle screw to the left.
The high needle you need to fly it and test the temp on the backplate, it should be warm but not too hot that you can't keep your finger there for 5 to 10 s without it burning. If it's cool or cold then turn the high needle to the right to lean it a touch, one click at a time until you can feel a bit of warmth on the backplate. You need to fly a bit and load the engine in order to get this one right. The other way is to climb out with the heli and watch the smoke from the pipe, it should be even and there should be no roughness as you transfer from mid range to high, the smoke should be constant throughout. If it drops off and you see the smoke start to dissapear it's too lean on the top, richen it a click at a time, if the climb is sluggish and theres a lot of smoke lean it a click at a time.
The end result relies on the engine, the fuel and pipe combination so it's a bit of fiddling but you'll be rewrded with an engine that will pull well and will not lean run and write your engine off eventually, better slightly rich than slightly lean
