  • Gyro Setup?

    Hi.

Getting to the final stages in the equpment installation of my Twister 3D, so far so good but I'm not sure about the gyro setup. Have a Perkins Hl800 gyro and would like to use it switchable & std. I'd appreciate some advice as to what to look for when setting up.
In heading lock only (single Aux wire disconnected) I noticed that the servo returned very slowly to centre after Tx rudder stick was fully deflected and released.. is this correct behaviour? I'm afraid that the instruction sheet for the gyro assumes prior knowledge!

    Thanks

In heading hold mode, the tail servo does not match the stick input. However, it does in normal mode.

When you move the rudder stick in HH mode, you are asking the gyro to give you a measured rate of rotation. The further you push the stick, the greater the rate of rotation - i.e. it piros faster.

When you have the heli on the bench in HH mode, and you push the stick over just a little bit and hold it there, the gyro duely responds and moves the tail servo a little bit. But, because the heli is on the bench, it doesn't actually turn, so the gyro gives a bit more tail servo, and then a bit more and so on until it reaches the end stop. The gyro is doing whatever it can to give you the rotation that you are requesting from the Tx.

When you let go of the stick, all you are doing is telling the gyro "no more rotation please". Again, this is not reflected at the tail servo because the heli is not moving anyway.

So, in short, yes - it sounds as though it's ok.

HH gyros are clever little thingys.
