Oh my my my Goddd

Well after many weeks of practising hovering, orientations, a bit of nose in and hours on the sim, I decided that today was the day I will fly the 450 pro higher than waist hight.
So I did. I could feel my hart banging like mad and my hands sweating like mad.
I manage to fly a whole battery, circuits etc with no problems at all. I landed manage to change to a fresh battery and of I went again. 2 minutes in flight and I had to bring her down again as I though I was going to pass out from all the excitement .
Now is this normal?

All in all I had a great 10 minutes flying. I REALLY enjoyed the experience.

Totally normal indeed. I had the exact same experience as i progressed through things. The best thing you can do is try to relax..... i used to get so excited i would shake... but of course.... your heli will pretty much do what your fingers are doing... so if your hands are shaking it makes things harder to control obviously. This hobby is the most rewarding and exciting i have ever been involved in. It turns into an addiction the more you progress. Its so rewarding. Congrats on doing the right thing and practicing on the sim first. Sim time is totally essential to anyone seriously wanted to take steps through this hobby. You will find that once you have the heli at a greater hight and distance it just feels instantly familiar because of your brain remembering what it has seen on the sim. And lets face it... anyone that can afford a performance heli.... should also probably be able to afford a decent sim..... anyone that chooses not to get one and opts for more and more expensive machines needs to get their priority's straight. I could never have got to the level i am at without the sim. Anyone that can just flip a heli and keep it stable without sim time is either a genius or a liar....... probably the latter

Congrats mate, you're one step ahead of me as I still haven't flown mine yet.. Still at the sim stage lol.

I'm expecting to feel exactly the same to be honest. I spun up my Raptor today (Shame about the engine problem) and it scared the bejeezus out of me lol.

I am glad the shacking is normal as I though I will be like that every time I fly.

Sim time is essential as you say. I don't think I could had the helli controled like that if it wasent for the sim. Like SaneAdam quoted " your brain remembering what it has seen on the sim " and that is spot on. The 450 gets away from you VERY quick indeed and I had this happened few times earlier on, and I really believe that if it wasent for the sim, I would definately will be digging the 450 off the dirt.

Is the 500/550 or 600 more stable that the 450? I found that was hard to see it when high up. I may get my self some neon tail blades as this may help bit more.

500 is much more stable and easier to see. I just got a 600efl pro to make it even easier to see... and is more stable again. Bigger rotor diameter= a hell of a lot more stability. I found that once you have a 450 "3 mistakes high" it was tough to tell which way up the bloody thing was once you start doing complicated moves. The bigger it is, the easier it is to fly.... BUT... the more dangerous and expensive it is when you stack it. Some neon stabiliser and tail fins can be a good idea for any size. Tracking tape on the main blades also helps. Its surprising how much more reference you get when the sun hits those little reflective bits of tape. Check your blade balance if you do put some on though. You would also be surprised how much those tiny bits of tape change the balance of the blades.

Also... the 550 is an absolute animal!!! Scary power... so is the new 600 too. But the 550 is ridiculous. A true 3d monster

That is completely normal ( I think!) . I did my first loops today with my Trex 600 and literally had to sit down for 10 mins afterwards as I was shaking so much! Brilliant feeling though :-)

Completely normal.

Flying heli's is much like smoking crack I imagine.

Of all the bonkers things I have ever done in my life (and there's been a few) flying my 600 has got my adrenaline levels to places they've never been before.

Agreed... i have played guitar infront of 90,000 people in the stade de france..... flying the 600 got my heart beat up faster and harder than that did! Loving that heli!!!!!!!!
