  • My first Idle Up!!!

So chuffed! Went up the field today and it got a bit breezy. I remember being told that IU will make it more stable, boy were they right! This is quite a milestone for me as this is the third time on idle up, and both of the first two ended up in a smack. First on my maiden when I hit it into an unprogrammed IU mode. The second time I tried I'd missed a gyro setting, flicked the switch and knocked out the gyro

But this time I cracked it! It's such a milestone for me. Got two batts through before the wind forced me home. Can't wait to get back out. Circuits the next milestone then....

    Thanks for reading

Congrats but I'm not too sure why IU would make it more stable as generally only the throttle curve goes to a flat & the pitch goes linear to allow inverted flying (unless there is some expo on IU & not on normal).Know the feeling with not programming the gyro in IU properly, certainly a brown trouser moment for me with my Fusion 50Onwards & UpwardsDan

I guess it's cos I go from 80% to 90% throttle in IU? The extra headspeed seems to help. Maybe it's my imagination.

And at least my brown trouser was only a 450 clone, not a lurvely Fusion. I got away with front gears so not too bad.

        Cheers

Nice one Rob just have to reprogram your head to hit TH instead of dropping the throttle stick now lol or you could discover another way to dig holes without a spade :-)

That could be it, good that your enjoying the flying, lol, it's funny now but when I hit the IU switch and watched the Fusion start to piro I waited for the inevitable but luckily my finger was quick enough to go back into normal and regain control.Just sorting a 450 for myself now the indoor season is coming...

Congrats mate. Every little step is a step further along the way. As mentioned above, always have a finger hovering over throttle hold, resist the urge to drop the left stick which will just push it deeper underground

Nice one mate. You'll find your batteries will not be as stressed either after flying in idle up as there is a constant(ish) headspeed so will probably be cooler than they were before. Like mentioned above it's all just thumb memory now as which switch to hit if it goes wrong if not I refer to the videos posted in this thread!! http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-d...t-off-fbl.html That's what happens when you don't hit TH in time!!

                Enjoy! Paul

                  Thanks for the advice guys

@Milly - It was you who persuaded me of the benefits of IU mate, in the 'other' forum

@Scotvar - I noticed that mate! In fact I put less back in than usual

Following the excellent advice, I have now changed my throttle hold switch to one that my finger naturally rests on. I just have to train myself it's moved when I plug the batts in

And Danch, how do you get on with lipo's in the Aurora? I fancy changing, but not keen on keep unplugging, that socket doesn't look very strong.

                    Thanks all!

I used a Outrage 2S Lipo 3600mah & used the one of the existing connections on the battery, removed the padding in the back of the Tx & cut off the EC3 & wrapped electrical tape round it.

Snug fit in the back but it goes in, charged it up a month ago & it's only down to 95% after flying every few days.

Also you will need to change the setting in the Tx from Ni-Mh to LiPo.

When it needs charging I'll just pop it out, charge & then put back in.

The existing power connector on the Tx is quite solid so should be no worry.

                      Cheers

                      Dan
