  • flight stabilizer gizmos, which one if any?

Hi peeps, i'm struggling a bit so i was thinking maybe one of these gadgets might help, i could really do with taking the water wings off my trex 500, it's so much more stable without them. I've had a bit of a gander at some on the market but to be honest i don't have much of a clue what i'm looking for, what would you lot recommend? I know i need to spend more time with it but it can get very intimidating and i tend to panic still when things go awry. Your help would be greatly appreciated,
    cheers,
    gram.

I agree with Horsham. I tried one of these gizmos when i started out and to be honest I dont think it justified the cost. Save your cash and buy a sim

thanks guys but i've already got one, not phoenix but still usable none the less. i'm ok landing most of the time, i have to be careful because it's a trainer set from a 50/90 kit just cut down and there's very little flex in the rods, if i come down too hard it'll break the undercarriage, it's just that now i'm moving about a bit i tend to get a bit lost with the controls, it's a fairly big heli and it seems to home in on me lol

the thing is with a stability sytem like say copilot III you will come dependant on it and not really be flyin the heli. yes you can adjust the sensetivity but if the stabilation sytem is putting it right all the time what are you goin to learn... with a sim YOU are in control

get a betta sim ifyou can hover and land safe on the sim then you should be able to do it for real, sayin that if your heli is not set up right you will neva fly it properly.

I would also save your money or buy loads of spares and learn the easy way, which is to crash and learn from it. Some fbl systems such as beast x, v bar, 3gx, total g can be set to be super stable but these come with other problems such as tipping if your not sure what to do.

I would learn the way we all did. Take of the training gear and go for it.

Spend more time on the sim learning all the orientations then. Learning to fly these things doesn't just happen overnight you know

the trex is set up perfect, just the training gear puts it out of balance and makes it wallow, i'm just not that confident yet to take it off even though it handles better, plus the orientation issues catch me out every now and then

Although I dont know much about other stabilisation systems, I have a helicommand 3D on a trex 450 se v2. After setting it up correctly (which took me a few hours with 6 channels), it works really well, as it stabilises the heli when the sticks are centered but is still very responsive when you move the cyclic. My dx6i has range problems atm so cant test it much but as soon as it gets fixed Ill do a proper review.

i would tend to agree that you need to just go for it, but we all learn differently and if you feel you want to try a helicommand , then i have some Brand new helicommands for sale PM me for details

Fast-Lads had a couple of 2nd hand heli-commands on sale.

Like everyone else has said, give it time and practice and you won't need one

If you are not in a rush I can recommend flymentor for 70 quid delivered. Lot cheaper than the other options around.

Origi KDS FlyMentor T-rex Helicopter Stabilizer gyro | eBay ordered from HK and fitted it on my 500 after a couple of crashes Very impressed - it has a position mode that is pretty useless unless you are a total newbie and just need to get orientations down... but the horizontal mode is excellent for keeping your heli level if you lose concentration for a second. I reckon it has paid for itself a few times over so far.

You can dial down the gain when you start getting used to flying around a bit quicker.

I guess I will be turning it off soon to let me fly a bit more aggressively.... but don't regret buying it.

It also stabilises the chopper inverted... so when I start doing that stuff I will turn it back on till I get used to it.

I Tried KDS Flymentor, Helicommand, and one other that I can't remember. They are great for scale models, they won't teach you to fly and will hold you back.
