  • First Flight

I took my Raptor 50 out for it's first flight today with the Bath RC heli club. Was really good and I learnt a lot about helis - how to set it up, setting throttle curves, govenor setup, fuel/air mixing and so on.

The first two flights were good, but on the third a sudden gust of wind hit it and I landed it sideways from about 3m - owch. Smashed the blades, broke the skids and bend a couple of the bars - nothing too serious - certainly not as expensive as the guy who dropped his from 40m upside down, detroying skids, blades, tail rotor, shaft, head, muffler, engine and probably more

I'm glad i aint the only 1 that breakes helis here. My scuttle looks like a right bitsa now but should be flying tomrrow. Had the twister in a constant hoover for nearly a whole battery today now thats progress..

Never mind they fix pretty cheeply and it gives you skill in setting up the mechanics its the third time this year for me. it snerly spot on every time now...

        Good luck

Ok, I've replaced the damaged skid, added a new remote glow unit (as the previous one wasn't too reliable) and replaced the main shaft - just a servo to fit and the flybar to fix.

Flybar is being annoying it seems I need to allen keys of exactly the same size to undo it.

The main shaft fitted just fine, although there new seems to be a couple of mm of play in in it (ie I can move it up and down). Is this normal or have I done something wrong?

Hold it by the head and move the top collar down to the bearing and tighten.

I don't remember the flybar needing 2 Allen keys, you sure you don't mean the feathering spindle/shaft?
