  • Help! Is the Wirral a heli-free zone?

Progress so far on trying to find a club

Deeside MAC - membership is full - three members fly helicopters (one of these has been kind enough to offer some help to this newbie)

Cheshire Falcons - membership is full and, anyway, no-one flies helis

Wirral MFC - used to fly helis but everyone gave up and went back to fixed wing

    A few comments I got

    "It's too expensive"
"Helis and fixed wing don't mix"
"You can't fix them with a bit of spare wood"

Anyone know any more clubs in my area (or do I have to start one )

I think some areas are void of clubs with even a minimal amount of heli flyers.

There is a thread somewhere with a view to club starting. A lot more to it then immediately meets the eye :-(

      Hi Snarf,
I beleave Clwyd heli club has a site in Chester as well as a couple of other areas although I have never flown with them. You could contact them through their web page, a link to that is on the BMFA web site.

      See you soon, Leigh

Hi Snaf and welcome from a fellow newbee

Expensive it is, and I'm only flying the CX2 LOL.

So far my repair bill has been

          Six new blades

          One New front canopy

          One new inner shaft.

Future bills, another new front canopy, new rear tail end body, and the anodized swash plate, and all the other blue stuff on the main shafts.

I've made a few mistakes but she still flys rock solid with no wobble, or slight rotation, plus she looks as good as new regardless of the few time's I've hit the deck.

My next purchase has to be the Phoenix flight sim to put me in good stead when I go CCP after Xmas, god help me then, a few visits to the bank manager I fear.

One thing I have learned if any, is not to be scared of the odd mistake and crash which ultimately results buying new parts, if you start learning and think your never crash then good luck to anyone, I was horrified a few times but after buying the new part you'd never now a crash had happened, so now I laugh at a mistake and reach for my flexible friend, (debit card) before I dig a hole for myself.

i joined my local club a few months ago, and have been really disappointed with the lack of heli flyers. im the only regular up there every week a couple of times, and its really hard to push my flying forward on my own. im hoping that others will eventually join.

Consider what it would be like if you played golf (heaven forbid). The club next to where I live charges £50 a day for a visitor (or £35 for a single round). That's a lot of helicopter bits by anyone's standards.

I'm a member of Clwyd helis and we always have room for new members! At the moment we have about 35 members. I can give you the details of the site in Waverton, Chester if you want. We have pilots of all abilities 3D to Scale. Plenty of people with experience (JR to Futaba) and models inc Rappy, Knight3D, 600N, Vibe and Vario etc. One of the lads if from the Wirral i think.

Thanks everyone - I have joined the Deeside MAC (well - I'm on the reserve list).

Nice bunch of guys and I'm getting some heli advice from kersh (although I tried to rotovate the lawn with my Trex today so I won't be flying it again until I get a new main shaft, flybar, main gear and blades.)

Back to the Medevac and a bit more practice on the SIM I think.

Postal strike is going to be a REAL pain.

Look on the bright side, you will have a nice heli pad for next year now that you have airated (sp?) the lawn.
If it makes you feel better I dinted my boom on the raptor when the skid dug into the ground on a forward auto landing.......ahh well
