  • Which heli

So baby came along and ate all my money so I've delayed buying myself a heli. I'm about ready to get something so was womdering what current recommendations are. Is the Raptor 50 still a good nitro compared with that else is available now?

At the minute I think the main contenders are:

    Knight 50 3D/Sport
    T-Rex 600N
    Raptor 50 Titan

Obviously there are plent of others which people fly and enjoy, but I think these offer a good cross section

    Cheers

Hold him/her upside down, pat on the back, money should re-appear.

Then the shopping list is as described above.

      Good luck

Strangely enough the Knight 50 hasn't taken off over here (AUS).
In fact I can't think of anybody in the Australian R/C Heli community that has one.

I'd like to have a fly of one myself so I can make an informed comparison.

My choice of 50 sized Nitro machine would have to be the T-Rex600N Pro.

I have recently offloaded my Raptor50 SE to get one of these puppies

Don't get me wrong, the Raptors are a great 3D machine but not enough collective pitch range for my liking.

Send Ade a PM I'm sure if you pay for his flights and accomodation he would come over and show you what the Knight can do..!!

          What do you think Ade??

            hehehe

Maybe it'd be easier if Ade sent a kit over here & I could test it out myself.

            How's that sound Ade?

Ive only flown the K 3D and the raptor.

the K 3d even for my level of flying feels so much better and more accurate, however the availability of parts for the Raptor is a definate benefit, especially at the field I fly mainly as every every machine down there apart from 3 is a raptor. so if I was to have a minor mishap im sure someone will have a part to get me up and running again.

Im sure theres alot of milage in the advice to see what machines are used at the field your gonna fly, but im not 100% in agreement. if someone can set up one machine they will have a pretty good idea how to set up any machine so advice is not that much of a problem, plus you have on here as a resource.

if you want a machine thats easy to get parts and repair then I would say the best would have to be the raptor. but if you want a machine that will do it all then one of the others would suit you better.
              All the best

When I play around the Phoenix the Knight 50 is always my favourite. It feels more responsive than the Raptor. I'm not particularly worried about getting spares instantly but if they are available fairly easily mail order then that's more than good enough. Are the cost of spares about the same for each? One other thing, is it worth spending out to get metal parts rather than plastic? Does it make much difference to handling or robustness?

with the knight you just need to add engine, blades, and headertank.

the raptor unless you buy an SE comes with a plastic head, I had one fly apart on me mid air which wrote off the raptor, im starting to build a new titan, however this time im putting a KAsama metal head straight on it. again with a rappy you need motor blades and header tank, but then there are alot of other upgrades you can do.

price wise the knights parts are fairly cheap but you would have to order them online I should imagine, but most of the good online stors hold them, skyline, fastlads being my personal favorites at the moment.

a while back i did a comparison on the spares price. everything seems to come out the same or cheaper than the raptor. More and more shops are getting a good stock of spares in. Real raptors, fast lad and mr models to name 3 off the top of my head.

the knight 3d has all the right bits on it. no need to go metal any more than it already has. The sport does benefit from things like the metal flybar carrier to make it fly a little more accurately but unlike the raptor its not because they wear fast its just because they can flex a little.

I don't think Real Raptors is selling Knight stuff at the moment?

                      Skyline do though
