  • Newby here with few questions.

    eHi Guys.

I been flying MSR,s MCPX's etc and my flying with those little hellis is very good.
I decided that I am ready to move on for something bit more stable and slowly progress my flying skills. So I build my self a lovely 450 sport that I really enjoyed learning practicing my hovering and a bit of forward flight etc.
Also I just got y self a lovely 450 pro and I must say, even for a new boy in to flying the pro is just better. Just feels more solid in my hovering stages. I got it set up spot on and with my expos all tamed down to suit my ability.

Something I never manage to work out, is a setting in my DX6I. The setting that say Gyro. I got it set up in FW mode with 41% gain and is stable as anything in hovering, no tail wag at all. There is also a choice for gyro too, but I am not sure the difference of the two and on what setting I should have it on. Can someone please explain to me in easy ( newby ) terms the difference of the two please.

    Thanks in advance chaps.
    Panos.

Basically you have "normal" and "rate" modes. The difference is, normal mode, the gyro will hold the tail in position, regardless of outside influences (ie the wind, forward flight etc). Rate mode, the heli will "weather-vane" so as you set off in forward flight, the tail would fall inline with the nose. It would also be susceptible to side winds etc in the hover. Only really used by scale pilots to be honest. Your MCPX will be in "normal" or heading hold mode.

Hope that makes sense in newbie terms

      Thanks for your quick reply.

So in the DX6I settings for my 450 pro should I have it in " FW mode " the " Gyro mde " or "INH". What I noticed is that when say the helli is on the floor and moving the rudder left and right, the tail blades are not self centering, they just stay where you left them.

      I told you I am a new boy.....lol

In the Dx6i you need it to be set to "gyro mode" and one of the two positions i.e. Pos 0 or 1 will need to be set to approx 65-70% for heading hold (Normal flight)
The other position to approx 30-35% for rate mode (Scale flying)
These are only an approximate starting point and may need to be adjusted slightly up or down acording to your own particular set up.

I wouldn't worry too much about rate mode tbh as this is only really used to help set up the gyro. All your normal flying/hovering will be done in heading hold.

It is also correct that on the bench it will not self centre. If you think about it, you are giving input to tell the heli to turn. Sat on the bench, the heli is not turning, therefore the gyro is going to think it still needs to turn, so it has no reason to center the servo.

            Thank you guys very helpfull.

I changed my settings last night and I had a bit of a hover. I had to adjust my gain down to 59% to get a nice and smouth hover with no tail wag at all.

I need to get it to the field and have a proper hover and go from there. So far so good.

            Thanks guys.
