    Hi

Well after about 6 weeks of building my first heli I am pleased to report that it took of, hovered ish!!! It even seemed pretty stable!!

And then the smoke started, managed to get the batt disconnected before any fire started but it appears my esc is burnt out....

    Any suggestions!!!

How tight is your gear mesh ? the motor gear and main plastic gear? they should not be tight and actually have a little slop in the mesh.

What motor and ESC are you using ? If its Castle Cremations there is your problem ;-)

how many cells are you flying on ?

what are your running of the BEC ?

how old is the ESC ?

what connectors are you using ?

do your main blades spin freely if turned ?

Sorry for all the questions but this will help us all work out the problem

Ok ill answer these one by one...

Gear mesh may have been a bit tight! i have backed it of slightly now.

The motor and Esc i got of ebay, Cheap and chearful so that may be the problem, Here is the link.

      The flightpacks are..

      Flightmax ZIPPY 2200mAh 3S 11.1v 20C Lipo Battery

The Esc is brand new, only just built heli.

      I am using xt60 connections

The BEC is running, orange 2.4ghz reciever, 3x turnigy TG9e servos on the cyclic, GS-D9257 tail servo and a Tarot gy650 gyro

And the blades spin very freely when rotated, That is however after i backed of the motor gear slightly, Not to sure about before hand......

I am new to all this so if there is something wrong with what i have then fell free to tell me.

      Thanks in Advance...

The align one seems a pretty good all round esc, as said, you het what you pay for, there are cheaper, there are dearer, but this one works well

Yep, you can get a decent budget option from hobby-king, or giant cod, they are worth a shot...but read the reviews and buy carefully.
You can pay a lot of money for rubbish, from e-bay or a bricks and mortar establishment.
Basically just ask first would be my advice.

ok cheap esc and a Tight gear mesh are prob to blame here matey dont worry we all live and learn. look on ebay and on here for a second hand align unit. Or giant cod sell hobby wing ESC's cheap and i have used about 6 of them on flying wings i have built all of them are still alive one even survived a motor failure (meltdown) and still works fine today. I rate them quite high for the cheap end of the market. How ever the align unit is your best bet. Hope you get it sorted i know how annoying it can be when things go wrong

yep agreed esc and motor are rubbish mate i personally would go for align 35a esc £35 approx, wont let you down and easy to program, as for the gear mesh get a slip of paper and feed it between motor and drive cog as you turn it by hand retighten the motor with paper still between cogs then feed paper out this should slacken off mesh enough, if you do want a cheaper alternative you could try these with the motor.

Category not found! know some people swear by them.
