  • Some simple begginer questions regarding spare items / upgrades.

Hello!, i have a handful of questions that i need answered, all of them are very simple i'm sure!.

    What is an "esc"
What is the most reliable site for lipo's for the MCP-X and 120SR (also spares)
How to mount my 808 #11 keychain cam to both mcpx and 120sr
Tips on upgrading my 120sr' movement ability (Advanced swash + duel rate is on) (DX6I)
What Align Heli would be recomended to buy first (i hear the 250 is twitchy and abit rough?)
Why does my 120 SR seemingly loose power (flat lipo?) on random occasions (i've recently had it balanced). It also just drops out of the sky losing total power on random occasions!, i have to drop throttle and put it back full to restart the motor

    ----

I'd like to move up from smaller model heli', but i'm concerned over price .... i know its a requirement, but advice on saving best as possible would be really helpful.

    Thanks !

    Hi,

    Esc electronic speed controller

450 pro is a great heli, but 450 sport more forgiving because it has belt system,
All other question never flown one.

      Get the Phoenix sim.
The 120 lipos maybe naff I had some that only lasted 10 to 15 cycles. The 120 advanced setup is just moving the swash arms round ( makes it faster more responsive ) a 450 size Heli would be your next step if your serious I'n rc helicopters but get a simulator to teach you the basics . And join a club if you can that will help loads . Good luck and enjoy

my 120sr had a similar problem, turned out it was just the battery, keep a check on you tx batteries aswell tho just to be sure. as for a bigger heli, lots of people will say 450 sized, but i get on better with my cheap 2nd hand trex 500 which i picked up with loads of spares for 250 bills, bit more weight, bit more stable. 1-2-1 lessons are the best way imho, sims do help but sometimes it's best to have an experienced pilot right next to you

          Hi there

Having owned a 450 and a 500 i would say go for the 500 as your next model, it flys much more like a big heli and there is not a huge difference in spares cost. Also is much easier to see when you start circuits. My first heli was a excel 90 fury lol but it was so big and stable it worked for me only thing was the crash cost was HUGE, there are Lot of good 500 copies about that are just as good these days or of course second hand offers great value for money. Just my opinion of course

Spares: I just hunt for an online heli store that has stock with a low p&p charge
Lipo: I have used Hobby King for almost all of my mcpx batteries (nano tech) and they have been right on the money. Blade 450 batteries (Overlander) came from a LHS and Hobby King (Nano Tech). Trex 550 batteries from Hobby King
Not done a cam fit to my mcpx or 120 sorry
My 120 has the links placed on the long swash balls and the D/R-Epo setting in my dx 8 are 100 all round with -50 expo on Ele and Ail and - 15 on Rud. I found the 120 boring after the mcpx and wanted to liven it up a little.
You are going to get a load of different answers on the next align heli. In my opinion go with the 450 size, if money is an issue then go with the blade 450 as it costs less as do the spares. Save the money for you next jump up to a Trex 500/550/600. If your next heli is a 450 it will make the jump to a larger heli easier, but if you are going big and then want to get a 450 it will be a little more difficult as they are smaller and thus more twitchy. You could dumb this down with the settings on your DX6i.
Not sure on the issues with the 120 cutting out, I had this issue with the mcpx and this went away when I replaced the motor. Can you give a little more info on the area where you say "I've recently had it balanced", the 120 bat is single cell and therefore does not require balancing. Have you got another battery that you could try? Are you charging the bat correctly? Don't fly the bat until full stick does not produce enough lift to keep the heli in the air, you will be running the bat far too low. I have my timer set for 5 min and have never had any issues.
I agree with the recommendation of a sim as it will save you loads of money in spare parts. Have a look at Clear View and you should be able to pick up a cable from your LHS to fit your DX6i, all in all it is about 1/3 the price of Phoenix. Not as good but good enough.

Again the above views are my own, others may vary. Just shout if you need more help.

First of all, sorry for the slow reply!!, i've been really busy.

Thanks for answering the basic q&a, when i said i had my battery balanced, i got confused, i ment to say the battery was pushing out a mere 5% of its MaH, so the shop owner revived it for me using his charging equipment.

I think i will move up to either a trex 450-500, depending on which one i find at the right price, im currently happy with my little mcpx .... as tough as the things is to fly!.

I have an RC heli club lined up too, and i have phoenix too, so its all looking good for now.

              Thanks!
