    Welcome to the forum Colin.
the best way to go is a sim first, it will save a lot of money in the long run.

Ideally you wanna be looking at getting phoenix sim! if funds allow maybe look at a cx2 aswell to try flying first hand, cheaply and safely!

Yep, get yourself a sim and a transmitter and then perhaps an MCPx.

Any thing with contra rotational blades is going to be reasonably stable, the problem with these is they don't fly well outside in any sort of breeze, i started with a cheapo £30 syma, then an mcx2, my first single rotor was a blade 120sr, then a hyrobo quark, then onto collective pitch with a mini titan, now still learning with a trex 500

              Dx6 or dx7 , Phoenix , msr / 120 sr or mcp x .

Or take the leap and buy a trex 450 , that's what I bought after the sim and dx handset .

if your not going to go the sim route which i would also reccomend then defo go for trex 450 with training gear, you wont be able to fly it in your house but its stable enough for mild wind for a beginner ,it also gives you the chance to build your own heli and understand how they work and also how to fix them,i started with the honeybee fixed pitch but couldnt get anywhere with it,after i got the trex my flying came on leaps and bounds

yep, forgot in my original post but deffo get a sim of some description, you'll be surprised at how much it helps, also on bad weather days, it helps relieve the boredom, i've also got a blade 120sr among others i was thinking of selling, it's nice and cheap and bounces well !

Sim followed by a Raptor 30. When it's set up correct it is like a trainer. Being bigger it is not affected so much by the weather and is easier to see. The Mcpx might be a bit to twitchy to start with. IMH&HO.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

or take a not so big leap and get a blade 450 ready to fly because it comes with a dx6i

personally i'd steer clear of any 250 size helis, and go for the mxpx or a 450 size.

Some useful advice there Colin, but to be practical, a guide to what you are prepared to spend and how keen you are to learn would help. In that regard I like to play devils' advocate and advise caution till you're defo hooked. Sims can be terrific, around £80 for a Phoenix tho', but you want to fly and cheaply so go for a co axial first, no need for a sim whilst you're learning and hopefully enjoying it, something like a Blade MX or one of those on the Toy Channel £30 a pop, great little bits of kit for a beginner. After that a good 450 will get you buzzing. Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !

mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.

Thats all good advice which i appreciate very much, but my wife and four daughters were aware that i was itching to have a go at helis so as surprise for fathers day, was this heli its a Kyosho Concept 30 SR-T newly built and never been used or flown every thing on it is brand new no fuel been in the tank even, but i think it might be just a bit to for me at the moment,i do like a challenge but i feel this is one to far at the moment.

                          Cheers

get a sim to get used of stick movements and then join a club, you could learn on this but definatly not on your own

Thanks Vinny,I think i will take your advice on that, the concept does look a bit daunting at the moment.

                              Cheers
