phoenix woes!!!

hi all

im having probs installing my phoenix, in my previous post i mentioned i bought a second hand phoenix but it was version 1.02a very old and couldnt find appropriate updates so someone linked me to the phoenix site where you can buy just the v3 disc, as they had the same prob and the new disc sorted it, so i bought it, and installed it all ok but now its not finding my dongle?
version 1.02a worked fine with the dongle (built into the lead) but the new version justs asks to connect the lead im running a dx6i so i know thats compatable so whats going on guys any help? pls........

Post a picture of your dongle - there were some fakes flying around that would only work with early versions of phoenix.

Looking at the photos you have put up mine is the bottom one (the real one), the only physical diff I can see is the colour of the usb lead is not black but instead grey with imp readings written along it there are no markings on the black box and the disc looks genuine no blurring to the photo,

I've just been looking at the site to buy an adapter for my new tx. They say the dvd is only available to people with the genuine phoenix disk. So you must be ok as far as they are concerned. You can get your dongle repaired/updated by sending it to Phoenix. I think the charge was about £15. I would email Phoenix first and explain your problem. They might do a free upgrade.

I'm just wondering if I did an install wrong?, I had the original 1.02a installed and put the new v3 disc in but it asks if u want to install 2 other programs one is adobe 9.2.4 and something else I said no and carried out install but then I couldn't open the original phoenix just said program error couldn't find a missing ext, so I deleted everything including old version and just reistalled new version excepting the extra programs, all was ok until it went to set up mode for rx and it kept saying to no tx found?, it did say new updates found v3r installed now ok but still no reading from dongle/ tx connection, surely its the dongle that updates? If so then it has but won't pick up the dx6i? Even tried it thru simstick and still the same?. If I pay for the new dongle then what with the new disc and poss dongle I ccould easily have paid for a new phoenix complete!,

In install it all, put the v3 disc in, if it asks about other programs click yrs

Start back with the original 1.02a disk, install everything then check it all works with the dongle and your radio before trying to upgrade it.

Once you know it works or doesn't you can try upgrading again.

do you know anyone in your local area with Phoenix that you can test your dongle on their copy and vice versa?

One thing I've fallen foul of in the past, was a dodgy USB port on the computer itself. Have you tried any other USB ports? If you have got a spare (or make one spare if you have to) maybe try that first.

My webcam on my desktop didn't let the microphone work until I plugged it into a different USB port as an example.

I,ve sorted it guys!!!!, can you believe it was something so simple as the dx6i had to be switched OFF!!!, if the tx is switched on the phoenix won't recognise it?, but a big thankyou for all your help at last I can practice with the modern heli,s :-)

Oh yeah lol, the trainer port turns the tx on lol, so simple, pleased you got it sorted mate

So why was it different when you upgraded the software?

I haven't got a clue?, but the old version didn't have spektrum as a choice it was just a generic or jr or futaba build into the phoenix so I had to physically program in the dx6i settings, weather that had something to do with it I don't know?, but it does go to show that the answer sometimes stares right at you but we all seem to look for a more complicated answer!, I won't mention the fact it took me nearly 4hrs to work it out tho!, lol.

There is always an answer. Sometimes its the bin. Glad you're sorted and we know a bit more about Phoenix. Even really old versions of usb thing work with the new stuff, even if you have to buy a DVD. You'll enjoy all the new stuff.
