  • help...which heli..

can anybody help me,without all the technical jargon that goes with helicopters.
am a total newbie, and need help choosing my first heli.
there is two i have in mind, the raptor 50 titan,or the mini pred.
from what i have read the raptor runs on fuel???? is that right.
and the mini pred is electric.

the thing that bothers me about the raptor is the running of it,i can just about fill the car with petrol, let alone know the workings of a little engine...

also am finding it hard to find these heli's without resorting to buying of the net,is there any shops in the yorkshire area, where you can get a hands on,and see what your buying......

any details i would be very gratefull..
    cheers.

Whilst you don't particularly need to know the workings of a 2stroke engine, it does help to know what you're aiming for to get the engine running sweetly, without cooking/seizing it or never managing to tune it for enough power to hover.

Electric might be your best bet for learning.

The bigger the better... I have a 400/450 size electric and a 600 size electric. I know which I would (with hindsight!) have rather learnt on. (the big one).

    Cheers - Rob

PS. don't put petrol in it either! You'll kill it. Model engines run on glow fuel - a mixture of ethanol, castor oil and (usually) nitro-methane. Another reason to go electric!

The best thing you could do is get to your local club and talk to the heli flyers there.
gazza (username) on this forum is a member of the Sheffield club, it could be worth getting in touch.

      Cheers,

Best thing to do is go and find a local Club and see what goes on etc.

You need to see these machines in action

go to a club first. shops are well known for selling what they have rather than what you need.

            this might be useful

if you go fuel check out the compass knight 50 sport its cheaper and requires no upgrades as your skill improve.

i wouldnt personally touch the mini pred with a barge poll after my experience with them not so long back.if you go electric get a trex 450 preferably the SE V2

As mentioned find your local club and seek out what they are flying.....thier is nothing wrong though if you want to go down the root of the Rappy Titan or the Compass 3D. I've had Rappy's and now I'm trying out my first Compass and thus far I'm pleased. I think the days of .30's are getting numbered as more and more people see that getting a .50 will have a long life and usage than a .30.
