  • Beginner Crisis!!

Ive been intrested in r/c helis now for quite a long time but i have never got round to actually going to the model shop and buying one. The other day i finally did get to a model shop (penn models, dudley) and they showed me a little piece of kit for a £110.00. this did look very good but i dont actually know what to get! Does anyone know of a ideal r/c heli to get for a beginner?? and also i have heard penn models can somtimes be arrogant? does anyone know any quality model shops round the wolverhampton, dudley area that would offer me great service and give huge customer satisfaction?
Please help i really want to get into what seems to be this very thrilling hobby!!!

I was in penn models today and happend to see thier heli guy (whitish hair) giving a demo of the heli your on about to somebody in the front of the shop. I'm sure it's one of the contra rotating head type ( 2 sets of blades, one on top of the other ). Firstly they are a good learning tool which will give you a good idea of the stick inputs while remaining easy for the beginner and a cheapish way of seeing if it's really your sort of thing.

On to penn, I have been in a few times and they can be a bit pushy where new products are concerned, I had them trying to sell me the new novarossi 50 engine but explained the forums had people questioning the carb setup on it. I wouldn't say they are a bad shop but I think you would do better going to a specialist heli shop, the nearest to you I would think is Midland helicopters and see if you can speak with Trevor wallinger. (think thats his name ).

The other thing you could consider is finding a local club that lets you have a trial flight with one of there heli's for a small fee and there's always a simulator which in most peoples opinion are worth thier weight in gold, especially while learning.

Hope this helps a little, all the best.
