    hi peeps,

just a quick one what does cyclic servo's mean?, also when buying a gyro what do i need to look for i've seen some that say head lock? do all gyros fit or have you got to get matching gyro's to the heli i.e trex must have trex fitted or do they do it by model i.e 450, 600 etc, and lastly i have a 5ch transmitter will i be able use it to fly something like a blade, trex, twister etc
sorry but im completely clueless and i cant seem to find any local people near me that i can learn from.

Hi the Cyclic servos are the ones that tilt the swash plate , thats the bit that steers the heli without getting to technical.

as for gyros most will be heading hold and you don't have to use a matching brand som of the popular ones are Spartain , Futaba, Jr and CSM there are lots more.

If you can give us a little more informattion on which heli you have or are getting we will be able to help more.

As for your TX (transmitter) what make and model is it .

A great fun beginners indoor tiny heli is a Blade Mcx they are indoor only but very easy to fly.

Cyclic servos are the three servos that control the swashplate. or in more basic terms the servos that make your heli go left, right, forwards, bacwards and up and down. Gyros will fit on all helis try and get the best one you can for the money (spartan quark would be my choice) A 5ch will not really be enough get a spektrum dx6i that will allow you to fly anything from a blade 400 up to a trex 700.

Cyclic servo means the servo's that control aileron and elevator control, you will need 3 of them. Most modern gyros fit modern heli's, the new align gyros, spartan gyro's fit 90% of modern heli's. Also all modern gyros now have head locking mode which stops the heli drifting and losing the tail in windy conditions.

You need a 6ch radio to use on something like the blade 400, the spektrum dx6i is a good starter choice.

ok thanxs guys the tx i have isnt the best its a planet t5 and receiver mainly got it as a cheap tx to use with a phoenix sim but still waiting on sim and now im not sure the tx will work as its only 5ch?......,
as for the heli it was only going to be a 450 clone there's one in a local advert to me thats below £50 but no motor or tx but its got 3 cyclic servo's says never been flown etc,
its not something i intended to keep but i figured it was a cheap way of getting to know a heli i.e how it works what does what instead of me saving up for ideally a blade 400 and destroying it because i dont have a clue about setting pitch, or trim etc,
i have a micro heli z008 avatar style that i can fly easily indoors modified slightly as it was 6ch side to side via 2 motors but huge batt drain so i removed them now it looks like a standard heli, but i can hover, turn, forwards, backwards etc but this is only fixed pitch and i know collective pitch is different and thats where i get lost in all the jargon,......
sorry to be a complete noob, but i do tend to rush into things headlong and then think DUH why did i buy this????

In your position I would buy a secondhand blade 400 for about £90-100 and a second hand dx6i for about £50-60. You don't know what servo's the clone comes with, which affects how much you would pay. Before you buy anything run it by any of us on here it will save you £'s.

Also set yourself a budget, remember if you spend £150 on the heli and transmiiter you need charger, lipo's and maybe tools.

The charger and lipo's can be had very cheaply from here http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s...&ParentCat=196

thanx simon i've been looking out for the dx6i but fleabay they are making £80 upwards and bmfa any that come up for £60 ish are gone in minutes, and as yet i still dont know really what to look out for in the blade whats good and not? i have become friends with someone on another forum (msuk) who was the one who recommended me to here, he has a blade + dx6i + upgrades and spares but its well above my budget over £900 in equipment, he said would split some parts down for around £250 i'e take off upgrades and stuff but like i said i dont know whats good and not so good and i dont want to go out with £250 heli and destroy it as its not set properly etc...

Oh and just to add to what everyone else has has said. If you spend £150 now, plus the batteries and charger that's not the end of it. I started off with a Blade MSR at Christmas, and look at me now

£900 for a blade and dx6i? I'd say that's not so much a friend as a conn-artist. You could buy a new blade for less than £200.
