  • Throttle Govorners?Radio gear?

Hi everyone, I've just purchased a Concept 46VR and just need radio gear for it. So far I've decided on an CSM SL560 Gyro but not sure what servos to get. Is it important to get digital servos for all channels? I'm also not sure what Tx to get, new FF7 or is the FF6 good enough? Also what is a throttle governer?Would it be worth me getting one?
If anyone has the time could they let me know what servo's,tx and Rx people suggest I get.

    Thanks

    Steve :P

no you dont need a governor, go to your local flying club and see what radio is most popular and buy the same, that way you will be able to get the most assistance.

The flying club close to me dont like helping people I have asked them lots of questions they dont seem to know anything? Only interested in expert flyers and not beginners like myself.

        Hi Trev,

Congrats on your purchase, I'm personally not familiar with the concept but from the little I do know about them they are a good heli.

On the subject of radio, as you have already mentioned the choice between the new FF7 or the FF6, I would go with the FF7 as it gives you an extra channel that you may need later on if you decide to put an governor or something on the model.

The SL560 gyro you mention is also a good choice, if you wanted to stick to the same manufacturer of radio, you could go with a futaba GY401, if you look in the right place they can be bought at a very reasonable cost combined with one of the new 9254 digital tail servos. I have 3 of these servos on my models now, they are one of if not the best tail servo I have come across, I'm really happy with mine.

There is really no need to have digitals on the other channels, most people use good quality coreless servos on the cyclics and throttle, however the pitch is a little different as although you can use something like a 9202 on it, you will find it much less bouncy in the hover and more stable with a stronger servo like a 9402 instead.

As a guideline I would suggest something like a S9001 on the throttle, S9202's on the cyclics and a S9402 on the pitch.

With regards to a receiver, I would suggest you go PCM (Digital) instead of PPM (FM) as they are far less prone to interference. So consider something like the 138DP which is an 8 channel PCM receiver. Some will tell you that a PPM one is adequate for a heli, but considering that there are far more moving parts on a heli and in some cases metal ones at that, therefore the potential for interference generated by metal on metal noise is much greater.

At this stage in the game it is not really worth while getting a governor, as these only really come into their own when you progress on to 3d aerobatics. Besides a well setup heli will fly just as well without one.

One other thing worth some thought is power requirements on the model itself, firstly I would suggest you use a bigger battery pack, something like an 1800mah or higher, all my models have 2400mah packs in them for example. It is also a good idea to get a heavy duty switch, the switch that comes with the radio set is fine for light duty usage like a fixed wing where in most cases there are only 4 or 5 standard servos and no gyro or high power digital tail servo taking quite high current levels to drive them. Whereas on a heli the current draw from the battery and ulitmately via the switch is allot greater as there are more devices working harder.

        I hope this helps.

        Cheers,

        Pete.

Wow thanks pete. Now its just a matter of buying the stuff and setting it all up. You're right I think I will forget the Governer for a while, best learn to fly it first I'll let you all know my progress.

          Thanks again

            Hi Steve,

Sorry I got your name wrong in my last post ops:

Let me know when you buy the gear, I will be happy to translate the manuals for you

            Cheers,

            Pete.
