  • my heli has the DT's!

Ok, fitted new servos, set them to 90 degrees (mid stick), all looked good, they moved in unison, settled to the same spot, rotors and flybars all tracking nicely, then i tried to take off, powered up and it started like an over excited spaniel, tail wagging insanely, bouncing up and down, WTF! Darenot try flying it, what the hell have i done to it now?
    Any help really appreciated guys,
    thanks

Sounds very much like the first thing you need to do is adjust the gain on your gyro. If it is a fast wag you will need to reduce the gain. If you can't get rid of the wag perhaps the vibrations from the heli are disturbing the gyro and it might need mounting on a different pad. Hope this helps!

would fitting new servos cause the gyro to need adjusting? i've now got 3x savox 0256's, and an align 520 running the rudder.

That would depend on the type of gyro you are using. It may require doing the most un-manly things around and checking it up in the gyro manual.. (reading manuals is just not the bloke way!! lol). Some gyros require to know the phase of the servos, some don't. Also it may depend which hole on the servo arm the rudder is linked too. You might have too much or too little throw. I would start by reducing your gyro gain to see if that has an effect then start looking at where the linkage rod is attached to the servo arm.

The cyclic servos will have no effect on the gyro.

Is the tail going up and down or side to side?? Side to side is normally gyro gain and up and down could be that the head dampers are shot!

Ok, just pulled it apart, the gyro is made by etronix, not the best by far but i was told this would suffice, there are 2 dials that can be adjusted, they are marked DELAY and LIMIT, which one is the gain? checked the tail servo, it's a biggun for the mini titan a ds520 coreless jobbie but the throw is fine. It is just shaking from side to side, this quickly turns into a fit of epileptic magnitude when i power up, i'll try changing the rudder servo back to the old c1016 and see what happens, thanks for your help guys lol!

Before you adjust any dials on the gyro, the gain will be found in your transmitter. Have a google search for your transmitter so you know which channel the gyro is assigned to and just reduce it a bit more each time you power up to see if the wagging dies down.

This thread has probably sorted out one of my problems with the head dampers. For the gyro you can and should check it out in throttle hold or with the motor disconnected. Just move the heli right or left and look at how the tail responds. Turn the gyro sensitivity channel right down to about 60% and it should fly ok. Then turn it up again. You could also try using rate mode at 25%. The cyclics won't affect the tail unless the gyro sense channel was unplugged or came loose.

Hmmmm, some bigger problem is afoot, moved the gyro and placed it behind the rear cyclic servo just so i could get a better look at it, doesn't wag anymore, which is a bonus, while i was at it i changed the rudder servo back to the old one, it seems to have reversed itself and instead it just shakes about a bit, well, quite a bit, well actually quite a lot,
so back to the shop with her me thinks....
