Fair enough ... but too much for my complete newbie skills at the moment. I don't want to have to start a rebuild quite so soon after I finished my first ever build :-)

I can definitely see the benefit of "starting as you mean to go on", but with only an hour or two experience flying RC helicopters, I was trying to tame things down a bit.

On a related point, do you know why my DX8 doesn't have an expo option on collective (only ail, elev and rud)? I was thinking it might be because it's considered redundant because you can just change the pitch points manually, but with only 5 points on my TX, it would be impossible to do it as smoothly as expo would make it?

        Just wondering ...

I think u have answer the question because it has pitch curves so as u said u can tame it down, but in all honesty i would not touch the pith curves try and learn that way and guess what we all crash and so would u weather is now or later but if u have a sim i would suggest u use it to practice one up to this day i still use my sim and trust me it does help alot but u have to be disaplin with me for me am allowed 2 crash only after that i have to trun it off for 30 min and then try again

IMO you're talking sense. The aim is to have a set-up that helps you progress.

My pitch curves for A Cert type stuff are quite shallow around the hover point (which I have at mid-stick), but much steeper away from this. This is so I can get access to a lot of power to deal with wind with fairly small helis (~450).

DX8s are very good for this. There's a lot of felxibility in the pitch curves - if you're prepared to work a bit.

Since you're using a governor, it's relatively easy to try different combinations of pitch curve and head speed in different flight-modes (or even different head speeds via AUX2 or AUX3 mixes).
