  • Real Flight -vs- Phoenix Flight Sim

    Hey everyone,
I'm just getting back into RC, after 20+ years of not.... and it seems that the hobby has changed dramatically.
I've started with a few of the basic planes, as well as the Spectrum DX8 (with telemetry). All of which, I'm waiting on delivery, as I live in Lima, Peru. (I'm American, retired.)

    My question is this:
I have a Real Flight V5.5 on the way. Has anyone compared this training system to the Phoenix Flight Sim?

In reading the website about the Phoenix Flight Sim, I see that I would be able to use the DX8. While I think this would be an advantage because it's the radio that I'd be flying with... I'd still be interested if any of you have used both sims and could give me an opinion.

    Thanks in advance.

I find that RealFlight has the better physics and life like feel over Phoenix. I even find the older generation G4.5 better then the current Phoenix Version!

Realflight has better physics but also is quite hungry on pc resources because of this. I have both and still prefer Phoenix, it just somehow feels more comfortable.
Plus with phoenix and my futaba tx, I can wireless sim without connecting the realflight tx

I have Reflex, Pheonix, Realflight G4.5, Aerofly, FMS and the BEST for getting the fingers going and it's FREE is Helisim that works with the cheapo USB leads.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

If you got a brute of a computer Realflight G5.5 is really good (quite a bit better then G4.5) with helicopters when you get a good model installed and the tail tweaked to your pref, however the pros will claim G3.5 is supirior hehe. With the new update of Aerofly 5.5 I am actually prefering that over Realflight atm for some reason, but their air feel is around the same, very nice simulators both of them but they really like computer power to work well, if you just get a bit chop in there its feeling like shit. For a bit lower specced computer I like Phoenix still, it gets the job done but I dont like the flybarless support there, been a while since I used it so it might have been fixed, others can comment on that

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just stick with the RealFlight 5.5 if it ever gets here. The plane was delivered, but Serpost has still to update the RealFlight package status. Am going to bitch about it today....

Check www.knifeedge.com on the exchange pages for more models and stuff. You can use 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5 without modification
