  • clone 30 size nitro?

    Evening all

Any thoughts on 30 size nitro clones? i.e. which are ok and which are shockingly bad!

I have a raptor 50 which I am using but think my progress is being hampered by my shear unwillingness to really push myself!

I have an old kalt 30 and was thinking of taking the engine and servos out and putting them in a clone which I dont mind crashing (cheap spares!) then i can try doing a little more without fear of totalling my more expensive item. Really looking to use wood blades do fast forward flight, backwards flight and then trying rolls etc as i get a little better - but not looking at full out and out hardcore 3d!

    So any input welcome!

      That's what 450 and 500's are for :-)
Mnany of the clones are pretty good and clone 500s and clone 500 spares don't break the bank..

Yeah, this is pretty much the case. There are not many .30 size nitro helis being made these days. I had once thought
about the idea of installing an OS 46 in an Ely.Q Vision Ultimate airframe and then putting 550mm
blades on it. The OS46 fits the same mounts and runs about the same RPM just uses less fuel and produces
less power than the OS 50.

          I have a spare airframe I'd sell cheap :-)

mmm, perhaps a second hand raptor air frame is the way forward and another for spares!!

Pheonix is OK but my flying enjoyment is being outside in the fresh air..... perhaps a big outdoor screen and projector is what i need!!!

Agreed..but we're talking cheap practice flying...
For cheap nitros look at the tz range 50 size though...although for basic flying you could think about a cheap .46 engine?

The clones are pretty good now - although some of them are nearly the price of a proper heli!

I would go with what someone said before - a second hand raptor - I have a vision for sale which is similar

You have a Raptor 50 and that's a cheap heli in nitro terms anyway. If you want even cheaper find a secondhand Raptor 30. They can be really good and for sensible money.

The Flasher 600 nitro is a good heli and 100% Align clone. If you crash it'll be blades, shafts etc that you'll break and the price for them is pretty much the same whatever you have.

After that, well its just a case of - if you can't afford to crash a nitro, buy an electric.

Thanks all, I was thinking if i could get a 30 size clone for £80 that is all I would need to spend, dont think i will get a Rappy 30 for that money but will start looking!

                      Thanks for comments
