Welcome to the world of model helis, to answer your question, Yes, its a good helicopter, its bigger than than the likes of the twister and other such models, and in the right hands can be flown very impressively, whether it is the best heli of its size, well that is a whole new debate. I have one, and I like it, parts are cheap, (touch wood, not needed any yet) and it performs well.
Most important thing, is to get signed into a heli friendly club, there is loads of help and advice on here, but help on hand on the day is worth a small fortune.
for me,Yup good heli, No hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
        Good luck

Check out the link in my signature (Phoenix Training),he has a good flying site and he can give you good advice and he is right on ya doorstep just outside Bristol on the A37 about ten minutes from Fred Coulson models.

Personally I would start with a nitro 50 size and not the mini titan as that was the heli Pete trained me on and we flew all the time no matter how hard the wind was blowing so it gave me good experiance and lots of stick time.,Oh and get a sim if you havent got one already.

          Hope this helps.

          Cheers Andy.

Chippy's right there, a nitro is going to be far more forgiving while learning & the high headspeed's of the small electric can be intimidating for a beginner. I think many people go for the 450 size helis e.g the trex 450, Titan, dragonus pro etc because they want to be able to fly in thier garden however, unless you have really big garden then the most you will be able to do is hover about as they tend to need alot more room than you would think !

If you are really taken with a small electric then the titan might not be the best thing to start with as the servo brackets will only accept certain types without some modification and there is the constant problem with keeping the blades tracked. Some will never have experienced this but as a titan owner myself I have just brought upgrades from the swash up to eleviate the problem, can't say if it has work yet as haven't got round to fitting them.

Don't get me wrong, the titan is a great little heli that flies well but as a beginner the last thing you need worry about is design problems. The trex is a tried and tested piece of kit and has a wealth of information about it on the web. But if you need to join a club to be able to fly which is recommended then I would suggest going down the nitro route.

Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak....

Thanks for that Andy - I'm in Bristol and had no idea that shop was there. Looks like I may have to pop to Knowle sometime...
My LHS, Al's Hobbies is only 2 mins from my house, but they never seem the most eager to part with advice. Maybe because I can only get to their store 10 minutes before closing time

Excellent - anohter RC shop I didn't know about. Bit closer to me too!
Thanks for that - I'll have to start saving the pennies up again (My previous fund disappeared over the weekend when I had to have £500 worth of plumbing done)

Well that's your mistake, right there!

It just happens that I've recently built one of these Mini Titans, and have gone from hovering in the back garden to (last night), my first loops and rolls.

It's not my first heli - I date as far back as the Morley Maverick, which was my first; I also had (still have, in fact) a Shuttle ZXX. I haven't flown either for at least 7 or 8 years, or touched a simulator in that time.

The MT has fantastic instructions - clear and precise. The quality of the mouldings is excellent, and the supplied motor and ESC (if you get that version) are very good. A real pleasure to build. I've now set up the pitch and throttle curves pretty much as the book - using a pitch gauge to get the angles, and surprise, surprise - they know what they're talking about.

For a heli of it's size, it's very stable, especially when you get the head speed up - I dithered around with a too-slow RPM to start with. Of course it's not going to like a gusty breeze.

Previously, I've been limited to simple forward flight stuff. The only time I attempted to roll the ZXX, I'd forgotten to hit the idle-up switch. Major damage. For some reason I find the MT less intimidating and I'm already more confident than I was with the IC engined helis. The small outline means you have to keep it close, or orientation becomes tricky.

Oh yeah - get Phoenix too!

                    Regards
                    John

I certainly wouldn't want to disagree that a conventional IC heli has a lot of advantages for a 1st heli. Hell, li-po batteries alone are a serious consideration, before you even get to chargers and mini RC gear.

Some of those advantages are outweighed for me, personally, by not having to cart the ancillary tackle around (flight box, fuel etc) and by the noise. Rossi 53-powered Maverick, anyone? Thought not...

Edit to add - I've been lucky with the tracking issue - it's been fine so far. I can see that it would be damned annoying though.

                          Regards

Ive been there and done it with small electric helis , once you get there thats it dead end , id go for a knight sport . Flown raptor aswell and now got a knight and it makes the raptor look silly in a lot of ways but you will never get bored of it . You can take it out in a farely windy day " im no 3der " and flying it easy . Recon you can get a knight in the air for around 750.
I got my knight from galaxy models and it was 140 at the time 3 weeks ago.

                              Knight sport £180
50 size os hiper engine £120
                              DX7 radio set £ 240
                              futaba gyro 401 & 9254 servo £160
Ripmax 600 mm glass blades £30
                              gallon heli fuel £20
                              hand pump £10
starter and 6mm starter shaft £30

Totals 790 pound and if galaxy are still selling them at 140 you would save another 40 quid so it would be 750 then,,,, not much difference from the mini titan but much more easy to see in the air and it would be more stable in flight aswell.
