  • Pinion & headspeed questions

    Hi, sorry to ask....
i think the 450 pro that i have comes with a 13t pinion. (older version with GP750 gyro and SP motor rated at 3700 i believe?!)
if i go down to an 11t pinion, this will give me a lower headspeed enough for wood blades?

i used that calculator Lynx showed me and it's showing around 2711rpm at 90% efficiency for a 150t main gear and 11t pinion

will wood blades be ok at that rpm? or am i worrying too much about this and the included CF blades should be good enough for me for hovering and slow circuits?
if i go with CF blades, would flybar weights help as well?

    Thanks

IMO opinion stick with the CF blades... buy cheapo CF/GF blades if you must just be sure to balance them. Woodies on a small model dont cut it for me but it is possible to use them. If you have too high a headspeed you will see the woodies flex and most likely go out of track. Fly around with bad tracking and that can lead to allsorts of problems Flybar weights will help tame the heli down and your cyclics will be slower (exactly what you need for learning). Your calculations regarding the pinion etc are correct BTW.

I run flybar weights and a 3700KV motor with a 13T main on my trex450. headspeed is pretty monstrous but it's nice and stable in the hover.

With Align Carbon blades only being £13 or so I would be sticking to using them mate. Much nicer to fly than woodies imo. I personally don't use any weights and my pro goes like stink but they would tame the heli down a bit for you as Lee has said

thanks all. i will try and get some weights for the flybar and see if that suits me.
