  • 450 sport tail question (again)

ive watched the finless bob tail setup vid and think i have my tail setup fairly well, but when my 450 lifts off its tail turns to the left slightly and stays there i.e. it dosnt continue to spin round, so would i be right thinking the tail is still not central enough or is it something else?

Have you centred the servo before putting on the servo arm?

Do you have the gyro set in rate or headhold mode?

The endpoints are set on the gyro to limit the amount of travel the rudder servo has, so the tail servo doesn't go beyonds its limit of travel and then you'll get the binding sound. The gp 750 is easy to set up, make sure the gyro is in rate mode, and the servo centred, then from what i remember you just push the limit button on the gyro then move the rudder fully left and right to set its maximum travel.

I'm not sure that it's a setup issue. It could be that the tail is countering the torque until the headspeed is high enough to give the tail the authority to stay in the one place.

yep i can see what yr getting at, maybe being a beginner im easing off the ground slowly and its taking a few seconds to sort its self out, as once its airbourne the tail holds, its just that its at a kind of side ways on position until i correct it with some rudder input

A 450 size heli needs a fairly high headspeed to achieve a decent tail authority mate so it's a fair chance that your issue is headspeed related. I wouldn't be too worried about it as long as the tail isn't drifting otherwise

I take it this is flying from grass? I've found my 360 does this off grass but not off the hard ground, the reason being the ground is holding the helis 'heading' steady so the gyro isn't having to do any work to hold it, then as you lift off the gyro has to jump into action to hold the heading. Now on hard ground I find the heli spins a bit on spool up instead.

I've increased headspeed so hopefully that may help a bit, gonna try it later
