  • Successful first flight

Well i have been waiting ages for the wind to calm down and it finally did today.
Took my blade 400 out to the park and done 3 batteries before i had to go pick up my GF, which was not a bad thing as when i started there was not a single breeze. towards the end i was amazed at how much work and concentration was needed to fight such a gentle waft. It was all good. Adrenaline nearly made me sick at first and i had to tell myself to breath before i passed out. What a buzz.
Was able to hover just in front of me and with occasional excursions to about 10 feet up and 20 feet away then controlled back to me and hover again. Was a bit twitchy. Most difficult bit was taking off and getting control quickly but all will come with practice.

Just wait for your first loop. I had to land as I was shaking the heli to bits. LOL

Just remember the 1st rule of RC heli and plains, "Avoid the Ground!"

                well done, keep practicing!

In last few weeks I have gone from a reasonable hover to gingerly doing forward flight and circuits, and my confidence is really gaining.

Its a huge learning curve at 1st but the feeling when you get as you progress is awesome

                good luck mate

I had a lesson on a Trex 600 with a buddy lead. All I had to do was hover it. But on Sunday, the field that I was at had around 15 mph winds. Not wanting to find excuses, basically I found out all the time I had put into Phoenix trying to do fancy flying when I should have done just hovering clearly showed.

My instructor was very good, I am back on phoenix and have started to just practise the hovering on the Trex 600 nitro. These Big RC Helis are quite intimidating as well.

Flying a RC HEli properly just seems so far far away.

I had spent about 3 months on the Phoenix before this first flight and most of that was just hovering. I will say the phoenix was a very good comparison to the real thing but the heli was a bit twitchier. Wouldn't like to take it out in any more than a gnats fart though.
Loops are the last thing on my mind. I am going to go through all 5 of my batteries at least 4 times before i advance from hovering.
Thank you to all who have been answering my questions and getting me on the way
                    Tony

The first hover is a great feeling. I remember it all so well. Six months on since i started I can now fly circuits, nose in hover and have even tried an inverted hover and flips on a buddy lead.

Practice is the key to it all. At home in a small garden I still go through pack after pack of just hovering and orientation. Slow piros etc.
Practice gives you the rewards so keep going, the feeling of achievement just gets better and better. :-)
