  • Basic electricity question

    Can I just check ...

If I connect my 6S 5000mAh flight pack up to my BEC, my ESC and my DX telemetry wire, at any given time will all these connections show the same voltage i.e. amp draw differs based on the piece of kit attached and the power demanded, but the voltage will be the same regardless of what device is connected.

    Is that right?

If they are all connected together on the same wire then yes the voltage will be the same. The current may differ for each device.

      OK, cool - thanks.

So if I solder (actually crimp) my dx 8 telemetry wire onto my BEC power wires, that will successfully measure flight pack voltage - the voltage won't be less because it's a BEC that's attached, just the amps. By George I think I've got it!

      Thanks

All I know is electricity is actually magic smoke and once the magic smoke escapes things don't work anymore

The voltage of any battery will drop when you load it. A good battery will drop less than a poor one. The volts will also recover after the battery has had a few minutes rest. Another name for volts is emf which stands for electro motive force. Electricity is just a flow (current) of these electros (electrons). Volts is the force that pushes them. If they have somewhere to go, then they move, that's a current (amps).
