  • what are the decent clones? looking for a cheapish half decent heli :)

hiya, im now looking at getting a 6ch heli but dont have to much cash to spend and also as im not that confident, dont want to crash something to expensive just yet! lol. hoping around £120 ish, i know its not alot. what are the 'good' clones out there? i know some people will knock clones but after all they are more or less the same, cheaper, and do still work all be it without the better quality parts. i do still want something with decent specs like brushless motor, delt driven tail etc. was looking at the esky king3 or belt cp v2, cant seem to find them in stock, seems as tho they have been replaced by the skyartec brand, anyone have experiemnce with these? after something 550/650mm in length (450 size?) any help would be great as ive been looking hours n hours in total and dont think im any closer to purchasing! lol many thanks!

Don't bother with esky, caused me no end of probs and nearly gave up because they are just crap.

Try one of the hobbyking clones, for less than £150 u should be able to get a Heli, tx, electrics and possibly a few batts or spares.

I have not got a hobbyking Heli but some people on here have and u get good and bad comments about them, but most people like them for the price u can't go wrong (million dollar question!).

Well here's the point, u pay for what u get, so while the Heli will get u in the air it's for how long?, sometime the cheap clones have problems with bits not machined correctly, set up issues, poor quality control on parts (hay what do u expect for £150 )

Take a punt and see what u can get and just enjoy the hobby, yes u will crash alot but that's part of learning.

Trust me, once u get the Heli in the air u will be hooked, next step is get a better Heli like a trex as they just go and on without any issues (sometimes align elecs not great) and u will progress onwards and upwards.

Heli set up is one of the main things u need to get right from the off or u only hinder ur progress, a poorly set up Heli will crash more than a good set up Heli.

    Just my 2p worth

Crashing is in my blood, were can I get a transfusion

You can never have to many batts

If you're just starting in the hobby then the cheap heli/clone route probably isn't a good idea... because you have to know enough about heli building and setup to sort out the odd poor part and get it fit to fly. A compromise may be to go for one of the more expensive clones..or at least better quality clones such as tarot from miracle mart or perhaps the pheonix flasher series.

If going cheap despite that they might as well go really cheap..won't be any worse and at least buy loads and loads of cheap spares and blades. You will crash even ore but eventually become an expert at rebuilds..or a frustrated giver-upper... leadershobby.com is worth a look.some of it is pretty decent too.

If totally new at helis the also consider spending on the sim first and a 4-channel cheapo full kit fixed pitch like the £39 stuff due soon at heliguy

nothing wrong with a bnf blade 400 second hand on ebay. around the £100 mark for just the heli often with a few spares. from £150 with dx6i. always plenty to choose from.(i paid £180 for a month old heli and dx6i and extras, came with receipts for £360)
at £100 you have money left over for spares or a servo/gyro upgrade if you really feel the need, but not essential. i have had one for a year now and still loving it. cheap but well proven. tons of infomation and help online. really easy to sell on when the time comes (i will never sell mine).
you will want a bigger one sooner or later, so spend more on the second one (trex500 for me) later down the line. perfect cheapish starter heli.
yes it has its limitations, but so does your budget. those limits will take you a long time to find. just say no to esky as no one on here will help you when you have problems. i think its safe to say, no to walkera also. get bidding on ebay

I'm afraid Daniel stores are only listing Blade 400 spares now. They'll sell you a Blade 450 RTF for £350 or a BNF for £213 if you already have a Transmitter and Lipos.

                        Monkey Man,

As others have said, your best bet will be a used heli - I am a big clone fan, but you would struggle to get much for £120, much better off with a second hand heli.

                        Good luck,
                        Mike.

I have a bearbone Flasher 450 SE V2 (trex clone) + Ali Flight case that could go cheap now ive sold off all the leccys from within it..

its near on 90% all align now with upgrading bits here n there... and it did fly as good as any trex 450 out there....
only things left thats clone are side frames, ali main head & tail... all rest of it is now align parts...

comes with a tub of new & used spares as well.....

could also supply the original motor that came with the kit & Spektrum AR6110 receiver & few used but OK Batts if the price is right..

L@@K HERE <-- this was the heli before i decided to split the leccys from within it & sell them off....
