  • New in Yeovil, Somerset :)

    Hey everyone!
I used to be very interested in RC Heli's around 1-2 years ago when I was 15-16. Due to my lack of money, i found it hard to maintain my interest, because i couldnt by parts or anything!
Now i am finally getting some money in my pocket, i would love to give this another bash
Looking forward to some Happy flying times

The most difficult thing to find is your own limitation. If you are too ambitious you will spend lots of money repairing and if too cautious you will not progress and crash due to nerves. It can be a cheap hobby if you do it right. I don't think many of us have managed that though. At your age you will progress rapidly and soon overtake some of the older pilots. I would advise you to get a 1 hour lesson with a flying school for around £30. Nothing is like the real thing. You may as well buy the Phoenix Sim for about £80, and a tx.

          Cheers Chris!
Due to other things I have done, such has guitar for 5 years and skating, i deffinatly know not to run before i can walk, but still have enough commitment to progress through. I have a Syma S006 Shark at the moment, but to properly start i was thinking of getting a Blade Cx2. Once i have practised with that for a few months, I was deffinatly going to buy and try out the Pheonix sim, hoping to slowly progress onto better Heli's.
          Cheers

Hi Sam and welcome to the forum. Before you make any real decisions about parting with cash, and depends on how far you think you may want to get into it, you would do well to take James up on his offer And see what its all about. You will find there is some good advice and help on your doorstep almost !!

I started with a CX2. I found it broke easily, was too small for outdoors and too big to fly in the house. The mcx is very good for indoors as is the msr if you can fly a bit. The cx2 is fine in a hall. The msr survives most crashes.

I think you might find Sam that you would get bored of the cx2very quickly if you have flown before, something a bit more capable might be a better way to go, like a blade 400 or 450, that can also be flown outside, as a cx 2could only in dead calm coditions, best to come and have a visit to the club and see what it is all about

That sounds like a very good ideo, but ive only flown a 3channel Syma S006. So i was thinking of just starting right back from basics, and dffinatly being able to control that, then moving up! But yeah, i shall deffo have a browse around the internet at some pics and video's and i think im deffo going to take James up on his offer and deffinatly see what its like.
                        Cheers Guys

If you don't want to buy Phoenix you can get FMS for free and use a joystick to start. There are good clones that you can buy for around £40 that are better than the Blades. Have a look at Giant Cods website. There is also Phoenixtech for the Flasher range and of course a whole range of 450s and bigger from trex. The cheap clones are not made very well, but they have metal rather than plastic bits and can be fitted with decent servos (HS65HB) and a reasonable or cheap gyro as you want. Do you want to learn indoor or out? Indoor is much cheaper. Bigger helis are easier to fly.

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum hope you enjoy this amazing hobby. My advice is do what the guys say go and have a look see it costs nothing.
It you want a heli to fly indoors with some outdoor capability go for an msr, the mcx is too much like the Syma - been there made that mistake got bored in a couple of days and went out and got the msr, mcx was gathering dust until I got wifey to have a play - at least it's getting some use LOL.
Anyway have fun and enjoy it.
ps £20 gets you Realitycraft Helimaster - you get a cd and usb stripped out tx, the tx works with FMS and with a little modification can be made to work with Phoenix. (needs a jack socket plumbing in LOL)
