hi chaps, just been looking on ebay at some of these, in particular the v200, just after some advice before i part with cash. Are they any good or should i keep my lolly and save for something better, what do you lot recommend? No real budget restrictions now, i just want something to fly in a confined(ish) garden.

Pretty much as above steer clear of WALKERA they are shi hiteOriginally posted by GravityKills View PostI don't have too much recent hands-on experience, but what I hear is "you can make them fly if you know what you're doing".
The brand has an abysmal reputation, and they have worked hard to earn it

Hi Gram, I've got something very similar to what you've been looking at - an Evo 180 se, sad to say it's been a mistake of mine, but lesson learnt - don't but anything Walkera, Century or Buzzflyer (all basically Walkera), they break easily, are difficult to fly and are not as good as the alternatives. In a small back garden an msr or 120sr would be ok when it's still, a 120sr is too big for indoors but both are reasonably crash resistant - the msr especially so; if you can afford to get a dx6i instead of buying it rtf, there is a world of difference. If you go that way I've got settings that will suit either that work well - if you pm me I'll send them you.
Cheers

mCPX
I am new to helis and jumped right in with a mCPX and Pheonix simulator.
I reckon its a great little helicopter to learn on, I have only done the canopy gromet mod and mine hovers well, nice and steady. I think the main issues with it are when doing 3D then the tail mod will help, but for learning to hover and fly about the living room/garden its great. Yet to take it to the park, I cant wait for these winds to ease.

I have the V200D02 and the V120D02. I love both!
I'll agree parts are hard to get but with so many 'copies' you just need to work out what parts you can use. I'll also agree the mSR is the best thing you can buy, but unless there's no wind it won't fly outside.
Personally I didn't like the 120SR and the V200 has been brilliant. I will hold in the wind and is much faster than the mSR in forward flight. However I've been flying six months now and don't crash the mSR that often I spend my time flying through obstacles and doing tail in funnels. I think the mSR can handle constant crashing where the Walkera will just break. But I see this as good thing because I fly the V200 as I would my Logo and make sure I don't crash
So I wouldn't rule out a Walkera but the mSR might be the best place to start. If this is your first heli i'd also suggest a mCX to start.Last edited by heli; 16-05-2011, 09:32 AM.

I've got the V200D01 and the V120D01. The V120D01 is great and very durable you can set up the flybarless system to make it fairly stable although if you go to far it can wobble a bit, the batteries last for ages too. The V200D01 is great to fly and more stable than the V120D01 and has a really good feel to it and can be flown outside in calm conditions. The draw back of the V200 is that the main gear is VERY fragile and since it's got a shaft driven tail if you wack the tail or main blades even on a mild tip over this stalls the main gear which then gets shreaded by the metal pinion on the quite powerful brushless motor. The main gears are about $4.00 each so not expensive. The other unfortunate problem on my V200 was the motor bearing was so loose in the motor casing it striped the main gear after about 3 mins flight ! this was cured by bearing lock and it's been Ok since.Martyn

They should be renamed W*nkera!
My very first attempt at this hobby 8 years ago ended before it started because of a walkera.. I also had to replace everything on it to get it to fly and it still didnt.. so I sold it.. in parts... as no one wanted it! lol!

Steve, you do realise that with what you have spent on that bl**dy thing you could have got a decent heli that will fly - at the end of the day an mcpx can be bought for less than £120 bnf or about £140 rtf - bet you've spent more than that; no matter what you do it aint gonna be anywhere near as good to fly as an mcpx - which will sooner or later be my next purchase.
I'm not going to waste any more on my evo180se, just try to fly it until it's wrecked then dump it and write it off to experience, sound like giving up but like banging you head against the wall its so much better when you stop LOLZzzz.Gravity is your best and worst friend!
