  • Futaba 9C versus JR PCM 9XII ?

Does anyone have an opinion on which tx is better - the Futaba 9C vs. JR PCM 9XII?

  • #2
I'm a Futaba user, but really only because thats what I was sold when I first started and knew nothing.
I have stuck with Futaba when upgrading to keep compatibility issues to a minimum (i.e. none)

I'm now switching to Spektrum 2.4 ghz...

Regarding similarities/differences between the 9C and the 9X2 - they are both pretty easy to program once you know where to look. Switches on JR radios are a bit better spaced, but I've got big fingers and no problems on my Futaba radios - maybe I just got used to it?
9X2 looks much nicer than 9C, it's also slimmer and, if I recall correctly, a little lighter too.

Outside of aesthetics, there are differences in how they do what they do. For example, JR TXs have lower latency than Futaba. This is due to the information packets being sent in a different order from the radios. JR sends the three swash channels together in one information acket (2, 3 and 6) which helps reduce, or even eliminate Tx issues relating to swashplate interaction. Futaba messed up here as they just send them in channel order (1, 2 and 3 in a packet, then 4, 5 and 6 in the next) - so the channel information needed on the swash (1, 2 and 6) arrives out of synch and can cause interaction issues.

If I were to buy one of these two TX now, it would be the 9X2.

    Cheers,

Spike if this is your first TX and you have no models on 35MHz I would advise to go Spektrum as it is the way forward and a lot more reliable over 35Mhz.

LOL - It's a bit like asking which is better - Knight 3d or Trex 600n

JR wins on all points apart from the ability to asign certain switches - and when you only use a couple on helis it's not really a problem. Both Ade and Trevor are Futaba fans but both use a JR 9X radio - what deos that tell you

Having said the I'd go with the Spektrum DX7.

Do you mean something like the Spektrum DX-7 or do you mean the "module system" + Spektrum receiver for say the JR?

            Yes, buy the Spektrum DX7.

Trevors FF9 is stuffed - the JR9X2 he is using is a loaner, I believe...
            LOL

I'm waiting for the module for my FF9 to go 2.4GHz.

I've had a look at the DX7 and the build doesn't seem up to much I hear it uses JR bits... go figure

As far as I know, the DX7 is a JR 2720 unit.
The modules do not have the model match feature (stops you selecting the wrong model on the Tx and trying to fly it...
