  • Jafo!

Ok so not an observer, but a newbie nonetheless!

Thought it was about time I introduced myself after lurking in the background for some time, so here goes!

I am pretty new to the sport, having flirted unsucessfully with a Piccolo and taking some advice I have just purchased a used Hirobo Shuttle complete with an OS32 motor and a GWS Gyro. I got a deal on a Futaba 6EXP over the weekend which I am hoping was a reasonable choice for my shuttle and my plank.

Anyways, enough for now. Any advice is truly welcome, I am planning on joining my local club (Blackburn) over the next few weeks and picking up a sim in the hope that I finally get my butt into gear and learn to fly!

    Thanks in advance.

My bit of advice is go get a futaba gy401 and 9254 digi tail servo, then go swap that horrible GWS out.

Thanks, I will have a look at them. Are the GWS that bad or could I learn on it before advancing to a GY401? What battery setup should I be looking at, I am guessing that the standard Futaba one will be ok for my plank but I need something with a bit of staying power for the heli?

            Hi and welcome!

I use a 'Sub C' 2400maH Nicad on my Shuttle which gives me five flights in a day.

Also using a CSM HL200 Gyro with a Futaba 9404 on the tail. Certainly not the norm but does me proud. You won't go wrong with the 401 though.

And you are right about not using the standard Futaba battery. Could cause serious problems.

            Cheers

Hi Glow, welcome to the most expensive sport/hobby going jokin. Like the others said, a 401 with the dedicated servo will serve you well and certainly make things easier.

Yep its a pg01, I was hoping that it would suffice until I get myself setup with everything else. I have seen quite a few on ebay coming from Hong Kong, has anyone experienced these? Are they authentic etc?

Thanks, I have noticed that its not cheap! My last hobby was superbikes which wasnt cheap either, but with my kids coming along its time I took up a slightly safer pastime.

And thanks for the welcomes chaps, looking forward to picking your brains in the near future!

the pg01 does work but it will greatly increase your work load at a time when you already have far too much on your plate. anything that lets you concentrate on getting the other controls sorted will greatly increase your learning speed.

the 401 with its dedicated servo the 9254 will do this. as your skills improve and you out grow the shuttle you will be able to transfer the 401 over to a more advanced model.

btw, dont get suckered into buying upgrades for the shuttle they simply arent worth it.

                      Hi Glow

The sim will be a good move... probably the biggest money saver there is.

Just looked at your profile, and interesting to see your hobbies are (quote) "bikes, shooting RC aircraft."

Which RC aircraft did you last shoot down?

Will you be shooting RC helicopters? We'd better stay clear of Darwen!

                      Cheers - Rob.
