  • removing the gears on trex 500

well, second attempt at hovering today with my trex 500 and yep it all ended in disaster again, had it hovering a few times but it wasnt overly stable, may have been a bit on the windy side for me today but also probably cos i been playing around with the linkage lengths and the tracking etc trying to get everything as acurate as poss (well i gotta learn somehow) so it came down kinda nose first blades hit the floor and has wrecked the main gears, so what is the easiest way to remove and replace them? cheers, Loz

    1) Unclip the three cyclic servo ball links from the swash plate.
    2) Remove the top head block Jesus bolt.
    3) Pull the head block and swash plate clear of the main shaft.
    4) Remove the Jesus bolt from the lower auto rotation gear.
    5) Pull up on the main shaft and withdraw the main gear.

This may help if you haven't already got it http://www.trextuning.com/t500-manual.pdf

Take out the top jesus bolt, take off the head (you need to disconnect some linkages). Next, take out bottom jesus bolt and slide out the shaft from the top. The gears will then come out. You should also check that the main shaft and feathering shaft are not bent. HTH

      Edit: - too slow!

Did you remember, as Brian said, to check the main and feathering shafts?

Oh, and when you put in new gears, pull the head up before you tighten the coller on the main shaft, you don't want any slop in there at all.

Usually you find the top main shaft bearing has a notchyness too it after most crashes too.
