Does anyone have a view on whether mechanical CCPM is better than electronic CCPM (via tx mixing) for a beginner? Is eCCPM harder to set up and trim for the beginner, etc?

eCCPM versus mCCPM

I would say mechanical is easier to setup for a learner.
As far as performance in flight - there are differences, but one of the magazines found it hard to tell the difference between identically kitted Sceadu Evo 50s - one on mCCPM and one on eCCPM.
I don't know who did the flying...

As Rob said mCCPM (mechanical) is easier to set up with each servo doing 1 job where as eCCPM is harder and more fiddly to set but all 3 servos share the loads and there tends to be less linkages but more chance of interactions.Raptor 50 V3 Titan

I would guess linkage lengths. They need to be right and sometimes are not, which can cause lots of unwanted issues with flight.
Twisting the tail drive belt the wrong way.
Loads of things can be overlooked or go wrong as it's a complex thing to do, but practice, manuals and help from here is all you need really

firstly this whole mCCPM/eCCPM thing is just being pedantic. you have mechanical where each servo controls each control (2x cyclic and collective) then you have CCPM where you have a servo that controls a ball of the swash plate.
i think its more a case of mechanical being easier to get it to "fly"
getting them setup correctly isnt any different between mechananical and CCPM. The trouble is that if you get it wrong on mechanical your ptch curves will be a bit screwy. if you get it wrong on ccpm then you will get interaction.
imo, no newbe should be left alone to setup and test fly a model there is so much to get wrong its just asking for a hard time. Theres people that have been flying for donkeys that still cant setup a model properly what hope does a noob have?

I'm with Ade (blimey for once
) there are alot of things to get wrong with setting up any heli (eccpm or mccpm). Get somebody to check it and test it before you try and fly. Its hard enough to learn with a well setup heli, let alone one that doesn't do what you tell it too. One thing that is essential with any eccpm setup, is that its all identical, the 3 servo's are identical, make and model, with identical lengh servo horns and identical lengh push rods. if not and one servo lags the other 2, you gonna be in trouble. I got somebody to fly my sciddly doo after I set it up, and after I have flown it a couple of time's just to see if they noticed anything wrong that my rather lesser experienced hand had missed (Cheers Edders). Its not worth losing you hard earned cash being to keen and crashing cause it wasn't set up properly (been there done that cost me £75 cause i didn't check the pitch range and the heli wouldn't come back down)
Patience is essential in this game, or a very deeeeeep wallet and a steely resolve.-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.
A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly
And a DX8 too

People like me are screwed then , ive got no club or local model shop up here that realy entertains helis so I have no option appart to go it alone
.
Sad realy , would love to have a heli buddy , have to try and get some one hooked
. Any way my v2 raptor is mccpm but the night sport is eccpm and I think ill be head scratching for a while , but patience is a virtue and ill not fire it up till im 100% sure its right HOPE
. Great thing is this place if there is a prob just post before all hell breaks loose.
Just like to say a thank you to all that have solved a lot of my probs in the last 2 - 3 months

if you dont have any local support make a day trip. drive a couple of hours to a club that can help. You dont need to go there all the time but nothing stopping you joining and visiting every month or 2 for a top up. we have a few members like that at DMHC.
