a wise old man once told me, if it ain't broke don't fix it....
well, i've been having tail problems of late. wandering, not holding centre and not achieving tail speed. I'd had to pull the tail boom right back to get tension on the belt.
i thought i'd strip it down and have a look. i found that the tail drive shaft was completely worn down smooth on the top cog. i'd been running a hitec 56hb on the tail and thought that could have been at fault. i replaced the tail drive shaft and belt and fitted a new 5084mg servo on the tail.
heli now sounds a bit like a traction engine. i'm wondering if this is normal and whether mine was so quiet before due to the stripped gear on the tail shaft. the tail is quite notchy now when turning the rotor hub by hand. is this normal?
next job.... i thought i'd fit some metal blade grip holders in place of the plastic ones i have fitted at the moment. these came in a bundle of spares i bought from a guy. but.... can i get the plastic grips off of the feathering shaft.... can i heck. i'm thinking there must be a bit of loctite on the shaft, between the bearings or something. frightened of doing more harm than good, i'm sticking with the plastic grips for now.
are heli's meant to test your patience sometimes.... i mean the simplest of jobs and all that....
