hi am very new to rcheli but fully addicted so i bought a second hand vision50 my radio is
dx6i and am a bit confused about a Governors
Do i need an extra channel for a governor?R there any pre-set ones so my dx6 would be enough for now?how to test my head speed if i won't use a governor?
what about ElyQ 10A /100A Voltage Regulator?do i need it to fly my vision?
    bless for any help....

Yes you can use some governors with a DX6i but not all - as you have said, some do require an extra channel.

I have an Aerospire Mulitgov that will work with a DX6i but you need the programming board to configure it. With this system you specify the headspeed you require when programming so there is no need for a tacho.

I dont know which other governors, if any, will run on a DX6i but im sure others will be able to confirm.

Generally if you want to find headspeed you will need a tacho. You will generally need it for setting up a gov also, however, as far as I am aware you do not need one for the multigov.

Although I have not used the ElyQ reg i know others that do and its been solid for them. I think that it is generally regarded as a pretty good unit and good value for money.

Personally I would go for a csm gov as they can run on 6 channels and you dont need a tacho to set it .. You just have to know the gear ratio and then just set the engine rpm and away you go .. Yes the elyQ reg will be fine apart from the cases can be a little flimsy they are good regs

and the csm govs are cheaper

well, you don't exactly need a governor in the first place.
If you've ever seen a nitro 3D heli in action, the first thing you notice is that it screams like a banshee. For most beginners it's unlikely that they'd settle on a too high headspeed
A governor is nice if you have help to set it up. If not, why not go for a conventional throttle curve.

At least I have normal mode on my radio for take-offs, ungoverned. So I have to program the throttle curve anyway. The governor is then only an add-on in idle-up flightmode.

well conventional throttle curve would be ok but am a quick learner all the help i need is a theory well explained vision50 is my 2nd heli and a few days ago i bought hurricane kit
before i found phoenix i crushed my blade about 20 times and i found idle-up much better for me even for a hovering
i just don't really c(luck of information) what the gov is needed for when u can control your head speed with curve and thro servo travel
i've heard opinion that with out gov i would get bored with helis!?(that i don't get at all)
is there anyone meeting in or around london to fly so i could join and learn?

                Exactly.

Using a governor at the "Learning to hover" stage is a complete waste of money IMO.

Throttle curves will do fine so spend the money on parts for your next crash.

You are right on with that, but it is nice to have the whistles and bells, lol

Probably you're asking the wrong people
Today I set up a Raptor 50 for a friend ... all plastic, fantastic.
Not surprisingly, the conventional throttle curve still works.

Hint: Try to avoid anything that distracts you from actually flying.
