          Croydon

I understand from Nutz that Croydon is mainly fixed wing. He said that there are a couple of dedicated heli clubs out in Kent and Surrey. Have you tried to get back from Croydon to SE22/SE23 by car on a sat or sunday! Just stay clear of the bypass by Ikea if you decide to give Croydon a go. Otherwise you will stuck behind a million cars with flat pack stuffed into every available space.

            ElRazur- flying in public parks

Passed through Forest Hill this morning on the s.circular. It's so much nicer at 6.30am without usual Armada of buses!

I don't think you can fly large nitros in public parks, maybe elecs like the Mini Pred would be fine. I've flown my Mini Pred in Dulwich Park but you will find you will soon be swamped by 8 year olds and tutting parents.

There is park on Mayor road in the se23 region. It is almost empty most times except for summers and what not. It should be ok for electrics. I wont advocate flight of anything bigger than Minipred or electrics in a public park that is just calling for trouble.

How would you rate the Minipred for a beginner? A no-go area???

                minipred

The instruction manuals are rather poor and the Poly battery charger that comes with it is ugly. There is virtually no help (in the manuals) about setting up. I bought one cos a pal did. In both cases the helis worked ok out-of-the-box. Although do check that the screws have been tightened properly. I can only get about 4-6 mins flight time - maybe that's normal. There is quite a lot of slop in the controls to get used to and maybe this makes it harder for a newbie (like myself). The HH Gyro seems to hold the tail in check quite well, although I had to adjust gain as the tail tended to wag out of the box. I wouldn't recommend using the minipred when there is any wind.

Thanks man. See this is the thing that just annoys me and probably other potential consumers as well. If am correct, a bit of internet trawling shows that the MiniPred was SPECIFICALLY designed for the Uk market with SEVERAL MODIFICATIONS?IMPROVEMENT to the product. It seems that the phrasre "several modification" is just a blanket word for rebranding and repackaging plus a Uk charger! I would at least expect the instruction to be clear than you have suggested.

It would appear that it kinda bears a very strong resemblance to an already cheap heli on the market (cant remember the name).
What annoys me most is the claim that it was designed WITH a multi champion that is well known amongst r/c enthusiast yet from several or most report i have read in here and other forums, it would appear to be a cheap and borderline rubbish product.
Sorry about my rant but why the hell do they do this? Capitalism sucks...Lol.

                    minipred

Don't get me wrong. It's a pretty ok bit of kit, if only to practise some in the local park. Is says from beginner to 3D. And it is ok for a beginner (me). It is stable and predictable. However, I can't imagine the plastic rotor head, etc could really take much 3D and the slop wouldn't be too great.

The worst thing is the setting up as the 6ch radio comes with lots of knobs and switches and the manual doesn't really say what they do. And some of them you do need to adjust to get the heli setup. So some scary trial and error setting up e.g. so if I turn this knob, or flick this switch what happens!

                    Did you go to Avicraft?

Man, the more i read your comments....the more i thanked my lucky stars for not rushing to buy it after losing my Honey bee . Clearly, it seems to be a tempremental kinda kit - Having to flick a swtich and see what it does lol.

Avicraft in bromely? Yeah i was there about some few days ago. I even out my name down for a minipred - £199.

                        minipred

I think I paid about 180 for mine (internet purchase). I first went to avicraft in the 1980s and bought my first RC car there - many many years ago. I have had some good recommmendations from those guys and some bad. Sometimes I get the feeling they recommend things that they'd like to get off their shelves. Maybe not. Just a feeling.

I you are interested, perhaps one sat we could join forces and take a trip to the Croydon Club. Apparently Sat is the day for rc helis, Sun for fixed wing.

No problem. Next saturday should be ok. I just finished uni and plenty of time to burn on weekends.

Or whenever, you want we could.
