Very Green Blade 120 sr user

High guys i am very new ,,like got it today i am 45 with family and live near heathrow have a few questions

1/anyone know an indoor place to fly-crash my blade 120 sr

2/have i made the right choice

3/should i buy a new transmitter ,will it make a difference

4/best fixed pitch outdoor heli

Not a bad choice at all, only fly it outdoors when there is hardly any wind until you can fly it properly. It's a bit big to fly in the house, but ideal in sports halls etc.

I am getting better spurred on by my kids i have a large house and getting quite good at hovering ,,,however using the rudder is a little pain i fly real helicopters and they are more easy as your always facing the right way but as for outside not sure yet got the 550 batteries which help and just importing a new kit to make it less jittery in wind.

Also ordered a spektrum dx6i so will need tech talk on settings this hoppy has hooked me and want to do as well as i can and one thing i have learned is the traning gear real wont help me found it to be unstable

I'm in a similar position to you. I'll be 45 next month and have started with a blade 120sr although mine was second hand.
I also got a dx6i for use with the Phoenix flight sim, but use it with the 120sr as well. It doesn't need any special setting up for the 120. Just create a new heli profile. You can adjust the rate/expo/throttle curves later if you want.
Buy yourself a copy of Phoenix (assuming you have a PC) and practice on that. You will (too) quickly want to move on to something bigger. Pheonix will let you try out most models and crash repairs take three seconds and cost nothing.
If you are buying more batteries, the Overlander ones cost about half of the e-flite ones and have a higher sustained discharge (C) rating.
Finally. Enjoy yourself. It's a great hobby.

If you're hovering first day that's really good! You don't have to pay for a sim though, FMS is pretty good and is free - all you need is the TX to USB cable. Sims are good for learning what to do with the sticks to get the output you want but do not prepare you properly for the real thing - crashes on a sim cost you nothing not so with the real thing.
Phoenix is really good, but to me ( being tight LOL) I would rather spend it on spares at this level - when you get to spending £500+ then it is a good investment.

Nothing wrong with the 120SR, Its a good first heli, albeit a little large for doing anything other than hovering in the average living room.
It flies OK outside, but only if there's virtually NO wind.
For good fun at home an mSR is a good choice.

3/should i buy a new transmitter ,will it make a difference

The stock transmitter that comes with the 120SR is sadly very poor The DX6i is vastly superior and will defiantly fly your heli in a more controllable way. (DX6i will also work with the Phoenix sim)

4/best fixed pitch outdoor heli

No such animal! Fixed pitch helis are just not suited to coping with any sort of breeze / wind
If you want to fly outside with any degree of flexibility with the UK's weather you need to be looking at a 450 (or larger) sized collective pitch heli, but before you go there get the Phoenix sim and put in plenty of practice

There is a fixed pitch heli that works ok outdoors, but it's expensive and not the best way to go. Google for Multiplex funcopter and have a look what it can do on you tube, but for the price of it you could get a 450 size cp heli like the one I' m building - have a look at Phoenixtech helis - mine is the TT325 all in with everything including TX RX etc about £400.
This will keep you going for a long time, and empty you pockets, bank account etc LOL.

Will take you up on the set up offer also thanks for the twickenham link have posted on that i am also going to look for a hall for some indoor heli flying ,,,got an idea on that, also found the blade 120 sr has a little issue with always going to the left like to much right stick in the left position ,,,turns out this is common and is due to the tail rotor thrust ,,,and learning about balance and trim is also great ,,,,today the first day of hovering and i LOVE it lol
