DSM2 only had issues when people were turning their transmitters on at ground level (it doesn't have a good view of current channels in use) at large events with more than 60 or so 2.4GHz transmitters on at once - again very unlikely to happen in the UK.
i was at an indoor event last year and was getting my ember 2 out had the tx on (dx6i) and pluged in the batt on ember and it was off some how it was bound to anuther tx ....i waited till the session was over and tx on ember on and it was fine.......there were around 15 people there...........this has happened the once only but it happend.

Go and get your hands on a few TX's. No point picking a TX if it doesn't feel right in your hands.

Just make sure when you have a play with them, the battery is in it.
I must admit I do like the feel of a DX7 more than the DX6i that's part of my reason for asking thoughts on the DX7SE I have seen for £150 so I suppose really the only thing I want to know now is that are there any disadvantages in having the SE version? also would I be better off having the 7 channel receiver even though I may never use the extra channel?
        Thanks in advance

I have a DX6i and a DX7. The latter is superior in most areas. If you are not happy with the 'new generation' Spektrums, like the DX8, then you could always go for the JR DSX9mk2 which is a lovely bit of kit.

Lol, as I said no trainer port, I don't think most people will be able to tell the difference in frame rates

Thank folks this has been good, I'm going to get the DX7SE and decide which RX to get when I'm nearer finishing the build, I'm not bothered about the buddy port because I use the box I got with Helimaster on FMS, would be interested to know if that usb box would work with Phoenix though - having seen some clips of it on youtube I can understand why you all rate it so highly.

You can't go wrong with a DX6. You can't go wrong with a DX7. You can't go wrong with a DX8. Just stop reading the wrong threads
Or get a Futaba 7C. Just as well. It does not matter. But not a DX7SE because it does NOT connect to Phoenix.
Just get mainstream equipment and do what everybody else does. It's hard enough.

With a 450 size heli, spend your time in a more useful way than worrying about hypothetical Tx problems. Rest assured, there are things that will burn a hole into your wallet, but radio failure is far down the list

Thanks for your advice folks, scratch the original idea, where I saw dx7se's for £150 has no longer got any - it's now between a dx6i (when they get back on the shelves) or Futaba ex6, which I've seen and like both connect to Phoenix (not that Phoenix connectivity was really that important to me).
I sometimes wonder why this isn't Phoenixadicts LOL, have to admit it does look really good, but I'm sticking to FMS for the moment!

Futaba 7C 2.4 (Multi Mode) + R617FS Receiver + TX Nicad - Futaba - Kings Lynn Model Shop Stocking all things Radio Controlled this would be my bet if you can stretch a bit more

If you're serious about flying, get Phoenix. It's more efficient. Looks don't matter, screen size doesn't matter. It's the quality of the modeling.

I learned on FMS myself, but finally bought Phoenix. Had I bought it on day one, the price would have been the same but I'd have progressed faster.
That said, FMS is useful as "heli boot camp", if too easy (yes, unfortunately, it is too easy. There were times when I'd have never believed this..)

I miss phoenix, have to get another copy sometime, or a lead at least, as that's what I'm missing

Hi to Simon1 - are you advising the 7ch because it's like what I've heard folks who've gone from dx6i's to dx7's say that flying is a lot smoother?

I think its more for the extra channel, if you ever want to go nitro and run a governer it takes the extra channel, possibly more programming features aswell
