  • phew.... first hover ever

just tried to hover my trex 500 for first time (first time as in never flown a heli except the sim, lol) pretty nerve racking, i managed to hover it for bout 30 secs brought it down (badly) then took it back up where upon it spun round, so landed it bit hard again, then after checking it could see one of the landing skids had broke so that was the end of that little session, the plastic skids dont seem to take much abuse especially with my landings, spose i got away with it lightly this time, does anyone make stainless steel ones, lol

either buy lots of cheap clone skid bows or invest in gorilla gear skids..they are pretty near unbreakable..

Titanium skids are bling, plastic gorilla skids would be better as they flex a lot, titanium ones possibly cause more damage if you come down hard, as the force has to be exerted somewhere

Well done on first hover, you did better than me, mine is on here somewhere lol, was there a reason for your heli spinning

Oh that first hover..... none of us will ever forget that feeling of fear and well being all mixed together - well done mate.

+1 for the gorilla landing skids.

          Cheers,

you need to ensure that the pitch curve you are flying is suitable for learning,

you need to loose some of your negative pitch until you are used to hovering, you dont need any more than -4 degrees pitch at the moment while you are learning to hover

if doesnt matter what legs you fit if you are driving it at the ground at -10/-11 degrees of pitch

Well done. 30 secs is pretty long for a first hover. It will get easier and you'll soon be able to land from idle up with titanium skids. You'll then be trying to do something more difficult. As for flexing the undercarraige try jumping up, locking your knees and landing on concrete. Or perhaps don't, but the quicker things slow down the greater the force.

no reason for it spinning other than me controlling it, it does fly ok when someone knows what there doing
