Just wondering why you guys fly helis over rc planes? If there is any one who flies’s both, I’d love to know what kind of fun and excitement they get of each.
I have just come in from flying my planks (Planes) as my helli is under construction ie upgrades (what a day to miss out on flying a helli Damm, it was so calm)
Anyway, I fly a Super Cub which is a 45 to 50 mph plane (electric front prop), its fun, you can flip it etc etc then i got my BAE Hawk (Ducted Air) Wowowowowowow Fast about 90 MPH and sounds like a rocket.. Then of course i have my HBK2 & Solaris (both good Helli's).
Which is better , could not tell ya..
My helli's give me a sense of enjoyment in the sense its harder to fly and you on the sticks all the time but what a buzz to see it meters from you hovering etc.. Now with the planks, the cub is a chill out, fly up spin around and land no effort needed anymore and the BAE hawk well that seat of your pants stuff (more worried about crashing it haha)
All in all one of the best ways to pass time...and that is all that matters to me .. LOL
I love to fly helis as its different for me every flight and i enjoy it alot as im learning all the time, but i also fly planes but there just for distressing between flights of my heli and nothing else as i can do alot more with a plane than a heli and i take alot more risks than i would with my heli
I have a Delta (combat) wing, along with a few others at one of my clubs. We fly them most days when we go flying, but only a few flights, and all at once, obviously... combat...
I reckon it's horses for courses - I love to fly helis, I enjoy the challenge. I find planes pretty easy to fly (they want to fly by default... ).
Plus 3D looks waaaaaaay cooler with a heli than with a plane
Cheers,
Rob
Went strait into heli's and after two years of flying had ago with a plank trainer,
Got bored after about two mins of 8s and circuits, did loops rolls and the odd stall turn, was told off for doing them on my first flight "especially with a trainer"
Haven't bothered to fly a plane agian, cant see the point,
BTW took me weeks to learn to hover well with a heli,
perhaps thats it, harder to learn to fly and more sense of achievement at the end of the day,
i get bored with powered fixed wing pretty quick just not enough to do with them.
slope soaring is fun tho, relaxing and exilerating in the same flight, no flight time limits and lots of scenery to play with. Then you have Dynamic soaring which is incredibly good fun. only trouble is that really I need a 400ukp+ airframe to have proper fun.
having said that i do miss my YT adrenaline 120... would have been really nice on a YS110 or greater... long ground scraping slow rolls were fun.
i love that "trainers dont loop" thing, obviously havn't seen 3djim flying his YS63 powered boomerang 40!!

anybody can be an Arsehole, it takes real commitment, dedication and a whole lot of effort to be nice.
Flying planes well and properly takes a long, long time to master. So you can fly a trainer around and do some loops? Well, woopee-doo! But can you make that loop perfectly circular, and vertical in a cross-wind? No, I didn't think so. There's a damn sight more to it than just yanking the stick back at full throttle.
I've been flying planes for 25 years, and still find new things to learn and old stuff to fine-tune. I've been flying helis for 5 years, and could hover pretty well without training sticks by the end of my very first afternoon, but does that make me think that helis are easy and boring? No, of course not.
Please don't belittle RC planes just because you are lucky enough to be able to afford them over planes. It's not and never should be an "us and them" hobby. It's what we do for fun, in our own time, with our disposable income, and if person A prefers planes over helis, then let them without dissing their machinery or their competance.

I don't fly planes they just don't really do it for me but that's only my opinion....However in this day of everything being eco friendly how many more trees do we need to chop down in our pursuit of pleasure????
Plane are still made out of balsa aren't they????
So fly a heli it's more friendly to the enviroment!!!!! LMAO
Thanks for all the replies, just out of interest how fast do helis go? I was just watching some footage on you tube of jet planes and have to say it looks pretty fun! but then again I saw this
All I have done in the last 10 years is fly planks , helis are a complete ly different ball game . Got a thermal glider 2.4m wingspan and a 6 ft yelow pits special airobatic baby but its still not quite complete yet . Adrenalin rush exceeds with a heli though .
