  • Binding, what's that about then?

    Hi All,

So, I'm reading the forums and keep coming across binding.

What is it, what does it do, how do you do it and what is it used for.

I only have a simple tx and rx in my twister, obviously this binding is related to much more complex kit but something i do need to know about and learn for the future

    Thanks

    Jamie

It's the term used to describe the process of linking a 2.4 ghz transmitter (like a spectrum DX8) to a receiver (like a spectrum ar7000). Once the "bind" has been made, the transmitter can recognise the receiver and will then allow the two devices to communicate. There are different ways to bind depending on the transmitter/receiver manufacturer, but the principal is the same. Hope this helps!

    Cheers

hello mate, hope this helps, when u use 2.4ghz u bind tx to rx and only your machine will work. so no other interferance from other radio's ect,

Right ok. So it's basically just connecting your TX and RX to one another instead of the old crystals!

Yup. Not to be mixed up with the other type of binding, where servo wheels rub, or arms are driven too far and jam etc

...or indeed in the legal sense either, ie a legally binding contract.

Not exactly interference free. What happens in binding is that the Rx is told which Tx to listen to. Or in the case of modelmatch which model in which Tx. You are right that the Rx won't listen to any other Tx or work with any other model, but if there is enough interference it could end up in failsafe.

So, I read something about whilst in Bind Mode, you can also set up what defaults you want the helicopter to revert to (Failsafe Conditions) when the link is lost?

What else can you do in this mode? I've never had a fancy TX before so is nice to get a good jist of what they are capable of

It depends on the tx and rx. Some spectrum rxs don't do a proper failsafe. They do a smartsafe. Throttle goe to Bind value and other channels hold position. Seems to work ok when you are just hovering.
