  • 6 or 7 channel for T-Rex 450 SE

    Hi

I'm about to buy a transmitter and Phoenix with the longer term aspiration to build a T-Rex 450SE. As I understand things, I only need 5 channels but 6 is nice because that gives you one for changing gyro settings. Is that correct ? There must be an advantage is getting a 7 channel set but what is it?

    Many thanks in advance

    Regards

Hi you realy need a rx with 6 channels for a heli,
Id recommend the spektrum dx7 system if your new to the hobby its on the new 2.4gigs and offers upto 7 channels, And will make flying a trex 450 se glitch free
Also works well with the phoenix flight sim

I second that,,2.4ghz is great for Micro electrics and the DX7 is a very good product

I use a DX6 with Phoenix. I understand it should not prove a problem with a trex 450 etc. Though I am sure a 7 channel is required for nitro fuel. Something to do with throttle hold!!

The Dx6 is a good sytem to but is only rated as a park flyer so if you want to go for bigger heli`s you would have to upgrade to the DX7 or something similar

Thanks all - I was looking at the Futaba 6EX 2.4GHz. Does this work with Phoenix too? I wonder why the DX6 is rated as a park flyer and the DX7 required for larger helis? A range thing?

            Thanks all

The Dx6 is only 10mw power output the dx7 is 100mw out put,
The futaba 2.4g system would be just as good altho i prefer the spektrum or jr gear,
Futaba tends to be more expensive on receivers

1,2,3,4,5 aeleron elevator rudder throttle collective, 6 gyro gain and switch from HH to rate mode - this very desireable - almost essential.
7 - for controlling a governor on nitro - and maybe on a big electric too
8 - in flight mixture control
9 retracts, pipe, slippers, trilby hat, walking stick, hip flask, scale stuff.

The dx6 has only 3 point throttle and pitch curves.
the dx7 has 5 points. this makes the relationship between throttle and collective pitch more flexible.

Arh that would explain the reason to go for the DX7 over the DX6 when you don't really need the extra channel. I wonder what the Futaba is (I had futaba for fixed wing years ago and always liked their gear).

                  thanks all

The Futaba 6EX 2.4GHz is also a full range set as far as i know,
But make sure its not just a 3 point pitch curve as Moyesboy said the 5 point curve is far better to have,
Also the Dx7 has 20 model memorys you might want to consider that and compare the specs of the systems

Aye just been checking. 6EX has no sub trims, a smaller battery, and no timer for flight times. So I guess it isn't the 7th channel that is important, it is the features that come with the more expensive radio.

                      Thanks Gaz

hi, I've just bought the 6ex and yes it has no sub trim (see my post) but its all under trim but any way its not a bad little set and i always use my phone as a timer for 150squid u cant fault it and it does have 5 point throttle and pitch curves but it doesn't have separate trim values for idle up and normal mode's.
